Opto does not trigger with fast ball
« on: May 09, 2013, 10:40:14 PM »
Just cleaned up a getaway for a local, and the left ramp entrance opto is a bit average.  A fast ball will not trigger the switch, a slow one will.

In switch edges, you can see the display flick in the diagram of the switch matrix sometimes, although when it is really fast, you cannot - but it does not actually trigger a sound.

I've replaced both the transmitter and reciever, also swapped CPU boards, with no improvement.

I've also replugged the connectors for the optos

Any suggestions as to what would cause this?

Thanks

Rob

Nope - swapped that board with a known good one.  I'm assuming it must be a dodgy plug or wire half broken somewhere????

In switch edge test move sections of the loom and see if you can get it to flicker.  Follow the opto wire all the way back to the CPU.  Might help track down a pinched or damaged wire or at least isolate where the problem is.  If its flickering there could be a break somewhere.

Also changed the opto controller board (next to the supercharger one), no luck, then i pushed all the wires firmly and wriggled them in the plugs goign to that board, and all is good now.  Don't really like these types of things as they may pop up again some time.

Check out the connector pins on the solder side of the board. They often crack causing an intermitent error.Fix by removing solder and re-solder.
