Testing faulty 4 slot opto board stern (WPT)

Hi Guys,

i am new to the pinball game and this forum, im teaching myself to fix my own pinball probs so any info would be great. i have an issue with an opto board with 4 opto switches on it. one switch is always on. i cleaned it but to no avail. i have tested the little SMD resistors and diodes. but one of the resistors that is part of the problem switch is giving me a different reading. it is a 33 ohm SMD but is giving me a reading of 31. could that be enough of a difference to be faulty? or should i just replace the switch? or how could i test if the switch is faulty?

Welcome to AP

A 33R resistor can read anywhere from 20R to 50R and make little to no difference in that circuit.

It is likely the opto is faulty BUT - the best way to test by far is to measure the voltages on the device when it is operating.

Tell us exactly what the board is and you might get a better answer.

Yeah it looks like a faulty opto. I used my phone camera to view the opto led and the suspected optos light was not working.  I have ordered one on the net.

Haha yes the front camera worked like a charm. Are you the bumper tech that gave me that great tip?

I also tested the transistor responsible for the light column and it seems faulty also so just waiting on a solder sucker and I'll have a go replacing it.

Yep that would be me.  Glad the tip paid off.  Fair chance it's just the opto.   If you omen a Dremel I'd use that to remove them Rivets if you slip with a drill it will be all over

Just an update guys. Replaced the opto and replaced a suspected faulty transistor for a lamp column. Now I'm back in business, the machine is working perfectly.
