Cheap TAF or is it
« on: July 26, 2013, 02:51:42 PM »
Saw this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/addams-family-gold-pinball-machine-/290951525847 and thought it was an unusually low start price and decided, as you do, to have a look. Then I saw the catch -

Postage $9000 !!@ Where's it coming from? The moon.

Yeah I know its a ploy to attract more buyers to your auction by having the low price but still never liked that way of selling.

It's because you don't get slugged with a final value fee on postage. Ebay will be onto this and his email address is going to get swamped with people wanting to pick it up which of course he'll say postage only.

Can't help but think some people may have. Bidding has jumped to over $1000. Might be a case of some serious buyers remorse if they have @.@

I might have missed something, but does it make postage compulsory?

If not, then bid away and require him to make it available for collection I guess.

Straight from the eBay help pages:

Circumventing Fees Policy

It's important to remain in good standing in paying eBay fees. Sometimes sellers try to find ways around paying fees or do so by mistake. Please see "Some Examples" (below) to make sure you're following eBay policies.

Breaches of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

    Listing cancellation

    Limits on account privileges

    Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

    Loss of PowerSeller status

Spend a few minutes taking eBay's tutorial on fee circumvention.
Some Examples

Outside-of-eBay offer - Listing an item on eBay and then being paid outside the eBay system through the eBay Web site.

Unreasonable postage or handling costs - Listings with low prices but unreasonably high postage or handling costs.
