Stern SB-100 Question
« on: June 20, 2014, 12:39:30 AM »
Trying to diagnose a sound issue on a friends Cosmic Princess. Sound was working fine a few weeks ago, then that turned into a squeal which occurred immediately on power up, now theres nothing but a hummmmmmmm.....

Testing the voltages on the board, i notice that there is no +5v at TP1. My question is, is that +5v at TP1 generated on the board itself, or does it come from MPU J5, pin 30?

Thanks

Yepp, the 5v comes from J5 pin 30 just as you said. Most likely will be the connector itsself or dry jointed pins on the sound board if you haven't already soldered them.

Most of the problems with this board are directly related to that connector. Best to repin or replace it  *%* *%*

Yep, had a similar problem with my Trident once, wiggle the connector and it would come good, pins need resoldering and maybe connectors need replacing too.

Thanks i'll focus on that and see where it takes me.
Is it possible for the MPU Board to not supply the correct 5V and yet still boot correctly?
