factory reset
« on: August 17, 2014, 07:57:13 PM »
Have a rottendog cpu on my tz, and it comes with the remote battery config. It has been installed for a couple of years at least and I reckon I get a factory reset situation every 3-6 months. I solve the problem by replacing the batteries.

Has anyone else have this problem with these cpu's. I seem to remember reading that people have problems with remote battery systems trying to recharge the batteries. Rottendog cpu's have the 3 batter remote . Could this be my problem or just crap batteries. I generally use duracell and the like.

I recall a diode that needs to be switched in or out (or installed/removed) depending on the mode these aftermarket boards that simulate bally mpu35 or stern mpu100/mpu200 modes.....

Something about some slight differences between the models that will make the batteries 'run' the board unless the jumper/switch is in the right position etc....i think even the homepin Mally MP35 board mentions it too...

I'm not familiar with this board, but if it is a factory remote holder that came with the board, then it should not be trying to charge the batteries. I know there was a really bad batch of duracell batteries a few years ago. They were almost flat straight out of the pack.

That's another question, how NEW are your batteries?

Besides the bad batch factor, you should only use NEW batteries that you purchase on the day you intend to install them.

Here's a classic scenario....
You bought a bulk pack of Duracell batts last year, the expiry date says "2017" so you think they're gonna be fine.
A year later you pull a few batts out to install in your pin and they dont last....and we're nowhere near 2017 yet...
This happens all to often.

NEVER store packs of batteries at home, they flatten in 1-3 years depending on brand/type.
You can't guarantee the batteries will be stored in a STABLE temperature environment.
Even storing them in a "cool dry cupboard" isn't safe, HOT summer days where the house is stinkin' hot still warms up the so-called 'cool dry cupboard'.

Temperature changes thru the year, cooking steam, smoke, oils & vapours in the kitchen (bananas are lethal to batteries) all degrade the batteries.

Beware of cheap/bulk packs, they're ALL crap and are simply a clearance item for a reason....even Duracell & Energizer, these are failed batteries that did not meet longevity tests, also the reason those bulk packs often dont have a use-by date ;-)

Nothing wrong with buying a 24-pack of batteries *IF* all 24 batteries are gonna be installed fairly soon, e.g. xmas morning in kids toys.
Otherwise, don't even think about trying to stockpile a few (bargain priced) packs in the cupboard, they WILL be crap when you need them.

Personally, everyone should move away from batteries and use Non-Volatile RAM instead, but i realise far too many pinheads are a bit too precious about their pins & originality etc.....
Plug in an NV-Ram while you own it, and *IF* you come to sell it, then put the original ram chip back in to maintain it's 'original' appeal.

good points guys but the same batch of batteries are used in my other games and they are fine. In fact they tend to be ok when I replace them at day light savings. That's why I'm guessing the tz cpu may be trying to charge the batteries. But I simply dunno.

Mate I think twilight zone relies on the batteries more because of the clock???   I remember reading that you can't use the button cell batteries in twilight zone CPUs  because they drain more power

Are you using Alkaline instead of regular batts?
