Pinballers - Sizzle
« on: July 20, 2015, 07:43:24 PM »
A guy in the states has gathered a group of guys from different areas of pinball and created a sizzle, a pre pilot to put forward to the tv companies to see if he can sell the concept of a pinball reality show.

Most of what is in the sizzle is real except the kiss in the dumpster but it's all pinball for 9 minutes and could be a fun watch if it comes out one day.

It was on Coast 2 Coast podcast episode 177 where they talked to the guys of the sizzle and the producer

Meh. Looks like a clone of the "Storage Wars" program with a pinball overlay for the subject. Cool new hook when it shows games and general public playing somebody's collection, mobile arcade idea is cool... There's stuff there to see, but if they minimized the jerkish personalities rather than exaggerate them and emphasize content instead of fake drama, it would actually be a decent program.
Absolutely zero chance of that happening I'd say. Lazy producers would rather ride a wave and churn out the same tired crap rather than create something even slightly different. Shame really.

Also, just like the "Storage Wars" show, the machine values are greatly inflated to add to the drama and walk further from the truth, which is a bit of a disservice to the existing pinball community as well as general public which might be inspired to wade into the hobby but stay out because they think it's way too expensive to consider.

But at least it has pinball. Gotta give 'em credit for that.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.
