Burnt insert advice...
« on: June 22, 2009, 12:53:42 PM »
Does anyone have experience with white PF inserts that have severe yellowing due to the heat from the lamps underneath them?  It looks to me like a big job (mylar removal & replacement of the inserts) or does someone have a magic technique to repair these inserts without having to remove them?

I am carefully considering buying an EM that has this problem.

Ive found that most times a good clean from underneath the playfield will get these looking right unless they have actually melted the insert.   Replacing these isn't that hard once the mylar is removed.

Thanks for the tip Daniel :)

Alas, I didn't end up bidding on the machine because the seller was not willing to unbolt the legs or remove the head for transport.

I have found that sometimes, the "burn marks" on the insert can flake off, if you GENTLY scrape them off. Does not work all the time. You can get replacement inserts for the more commonly used applications.
