T2, ground short on all rows?????
« on: June 23, 2009, 11:31:18 PM »
Hi guys,

I just finished installing my Hunter ship LED mod and booted up my machine.

I only soldered to a GI lamp holder and a flasher lamp holder, machine was off.

It started doing all weird stuff, so I went into the tests. I have ground shorts on all of the rows!!!

Tested all the fuses, all OK.

What the hell have I done?

Cheers Angelo

ummm, ouch!

Step 1, remove the whole mod-thing for a start, and backtrack.

I did that first.......

Too make things even worse, this is the first time I have actually lifted the playfield out of the cabinet since buying the machine late last year!
Time to go to bed and attack tomorrow.....

I would check all obvious points to make sure you havn't shorted anything out.

I had a similar error on my Getaway and turned out the U20 on the CPU just died on its own.

If you've gone over everywhere near where you did the work and no signs of solder flick etc or loose wires around coin door/under playfield I would suggest to remove the switch looms from the CPU board with machine off and boot game.  If no errors (remember to leave direct switches plugged in) then it may be an actual short.  If not I suggest an IC has died.

Check all the voltages on the Driver board first. I had a similar problem recently and it turned out to be a rectifier problem + Cap short at C3(I think)

All good, it worked out to be the U20 IC.

I put in a IC socket, and grabbed the IC from my Indy 500.

Thanks for the heads up!
