GTB Pro Football - price check?
« on: July 03, 2009, 03:36:35 PM »
There is a pro football up for auction tomorrow, i went and had a look today

Backglass is excellent - could see no flaking or scratches

Playfield is in pretty good condition (dirty) overall, wear mark from ball shooter and a couple of splotches at the bottom that look a bit like water, but i could not see any swelling.  The inserts have dropped a bit but seem also a bit concave (getting the concave out might be tricky????)

Cabinet is very ordinary but thats no big issue

Inside under the playfield everything looked very clean with no immediately obvious scorch marks or anything

Back box was locked with no key and they wouldn't let me force it open (understandably)

Plugged in the lights go on and thats it.

So wondering on peoples opinions as to what it might be worth and how much fun can i get into fixing it (i've started reading Ford Fairlane's 24 page epic!!).  So far i've done basic circuit board stuff with DMD's and some mucking around with my Flash - but nothing with the earlier EM's.

Thanks

Rob

Heya,

Yeah from those pics it looks very "wet" if you know what i mean. I'd be a little hesitant without at least checking under the playfield and running your eye along the playfield to check for warping. I paid $500 for mine not working. BTW, the reds in the backglass have faded (as mine has too with no flaking).

And if you've read my epic thread then you should be able to fix most problems on it... that combined with DDstoys 101 threads should get the job done. (except the last thing thats still bugging me but thats most likely my incompetence :lol)

Good Luck with it but dont offer too much

Judging by those stains on the lower play field it looks like it might have been sitting in a Turkish bath house for a while ;)

It's miles better than that boat anchor Pro Football from Bendigo though  ;)

It's an OK game, not the best by a long shot (sorry Rob). Always liked the dual scoring of points and 'points scored' which Gottlieb used on a few games around this time, mostly on their baseball based pins of this era

To have a great playing game you really need to have all 4 flippers strong (getting all 4 equal and strong is a pain) and the auto ball launch needs to be strong to get the ball up the playfield at the start of each ball.

IPDB rates it at 7.2 (I was surprised at that) http://www.ipdb.org/rate/showrate.pl?gid=1865

What to pay? Wouldn't got any higher than $650 - $700 if she isn't working.

The cab looks OK, just a typical of a 36 year old game.

Good luck!

Any musty/mildew seem coming from the PF, almost looks mouldy? Looks ok, if you get it for less than 600 you did ok.

Looks like the incorrect rubber kit for this machine !

I agree with other's comments. It does seem to have sustained some moisture or water damage. You need to check under the playfield for corrosion on metal parts and adjust the price accordingly.

Still, I would suggest the game is more of a project and will need some work

$500 tops in my book - give or take $100..

Thanks heaps for the reply's guys.  I ended up allowing the only competing bidder to grab it for $400 as she was pretty keen - had a chat later and she was going to go up to $500 or $600 on behalf of a friend.  I did give her my number if he gets sick of it or can't get it going....
