TAF price check
« on: July 10, 2009, 05:02:39 PM »
Price check on a part working The Addams Family.  Boards all need work, couple of cables need replacing, speakers needs replacing, rusty legs, playfield is badly worn to the point that balls would almost drop through playfield into cabinet (needs new playfield  :lol), just about played to death.  Cabinet is solid.

In other words machine needs a full rebuild.

I guess the value is probably the sum of the parts

a replacement playfield will set you back quite a bit

I guess you're paying for playfield plastics and furniture,  some coils and a cabinet...What are the decals like?

How bad are the boards?

I'm not sure how much the playfields Marks getting in are - but I guess you are looking at 50+ hours to rebuild and cost of new PF and boards if required

If it was me - allowing say decals ($400), boards ($400 - probably not required), display ($280), playfield ($1200 ? guess) misc ($400)

$1200 would be a fair price I guess.....if the plastics, ramps etc are all OK...

I've got a set of speakers from my HS2 - which I replaced when I rebuilt it.  A new set was only $30 so I bought them and the old ones are there you can have for nothing.

Most plastics are OK, could really use a new ramp.  Boards look unhacked, but CPU has some minor corrosion to batteries and holder.  The holder needs to be removed and damage repaired.

Has been stored in a dark environment and there is mold inside the cabinet and on the translite.

My initial thought on this machine was $1600.

Should point out that the owner of this machine paid $6500 for it 3yrs ago ^.^.  Hasn't really worked since getting it, talk about being ripped off.

Wow.  I do feel for the people.  Was it like that when they bought it?

I really don't know the price of Marks PF's coming in, may be more (or less) but effectively you will strip and rebuild entire machine from scratch.

I guess considering they paid that much for it they might not let it go so cheap.  Doing the work is the fun part (for me) and I know you're work will be of a very high standard so it will be a great machine when finished.  Keeper or project to move on?

Shame to see one go to the scrap heap.

I'll be interested to see what the others reckon price wise....I guess if playfields were not available it would be parted out.

2.4K would make it too expensive.  Factor in the price of a new playfield, then you would easily spend another $1100 in parts on top without trying, then consider the 60+ hours that need to be spent on it.  Better off with something else.

The owner would like to keep this machine, even thou I'm telling them that it's a money pit.  But hey if they want to pay I'll do the work.  I'd just like to save this game.

I wish I had of taken my camera to show just how bad the playfield is on this thing, never seen a playfield so badly worn before.  Rusty balls have just ripped into the timber on the playfield like nothing.  How the balls aren't dropping into the cabinet is amazing.

To answer your question Marty, yes it was bought in this condition  !!!  Thou the rusty balls had been replaced with nice new ones and bare playfield timber was painted black to hide the damage in the pics.

Ouch - a $6,500 project TAF.  How does the owner feel about it?  I can't see it, but maybe at the time they thought say $8,500+work,etc. was ok all up.

At that price, from their perspective, could you justify spending any more?

Someone help this poor pin....

any TAF is worth 3k  ANY  as long as it has all the boards , even if cabinet is stuffed ,

but  the only reason I would say less  if as you stated playfield  is worn , and has extra holes in it
but then again if its put on ebay I would still day it get close to 3k

you can get a few overlays  for it and new playfield will be around 800 us ( guess , maybe less )  from IPB

Playfield overlays would be no good.  Every hole is huge and I mean huge there is just not enough timber in the thing to bring it back.  $800 US for a repro playfield comes in around $970 AUS plus shipping.  I just can't see a way for the owner to come out OK.  Maybe you might get them in cheaper?

Like I said I'm only trying to save this game, I don't even like TAF.

I've offered the owner a reduced rate to do a playfield swap or offered to trade one of my own personal games which would see them get something around $3500 in value.  "Pls don't ask what machine."  Reason for posting here was to make sure that I wasn't trying to rip the owner off with what I offered.
