New mini scope of sorts
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:45:36 PM »
Hi guys,

After looking all over the globe looking for an ozi-fox Scope-Probe (same as Clay uses in his PinRepair guides) I came across the jyetech LCD Digital Storage Oscilloscope.

I've got no idea about scopes - so I don't know if it will suit Pinball repair applications however for $49US its worth the gamble.

I just need to source a AUD power adaptor (9vDC 1000mA output) and learn how to use a scope and I'll be all good!

Interested in seeing your findings on this scope Marty. The old style scopes are so big they take up half the desk, so I seldom use it.

yes - very rare i use my CRO too - i find that with logic probe, DMM and analogue, its covers everything... i only use the CRO really to see how much "noise" there is on a signal.

Buti have to admit - thats a real dinky CRO.. what a great price too!

Word must be getting out.
I picked up one of those in kit form about a week or two ago. Most of it is SMD (comes pre-soldered) so there's not much left to solder really. Took about a half-hour to finish it up. The kit is even cheaper at about $35 US.
Link to the kit.

I was surprised at how well it worked. No, it's not as nice or accurate as a "real" oscilloscope, but I expected the refresh rate to be pretty chunky and to be able to handle only relatively slow frequencies. However, it's really pretty good. They sure are portable enough - now it's a quick & easy matter to take it to the machine to check for signals here & there rather than figuring out a global strategy just to get the scope and machine close together enough for the leads to reach.

I also have some learning to do. I've used a scope maybe a half-dozen times in my life, and three of those was about two months ago to read a radio control signal in a project I was working on - had help from my local guru on that one too.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.
