Packing ideas and transport from Adelaide to Syd or Newc?
« on: November 07, 2009, 12:46:09 PM »
G'Day,

Just looking to get my new Sinbad from Adelaide to NSW and although I can easily get a semi, I am looking to understand how to best pack the machine for transport on a semi. Any ideas would be appreciated from those who have used this type of method. I assume the headbox is placed on the cabinet with packing between, legs removed and secured to the cabinet somehow.

Help please?

Take balls out.

Un bolt the head and lay it on the body... Cardboard or blankets in between the head box and cab of course to protect it.. MAKE SURE that the backglass is locked in place and cannot be unlocked...take keys out !

Put some protection in between the bg and cab for extra protection..

Wrap the body with blankets or cardboard...

Shrink wrap the head to the body after it has been protected so there is no movement....

Take legs off and put bolts and keys together with legs and shrink wrap them.....

Shrink wrap the legs to the body......

She's all done...

Will need the guy picking it up to strap it down so there is no movement...

pics below..... was shrink wrapped just before it was picked up....no pics..

Some people have big HEADS !

Anyone that buys one of my games decides on the packing method after speaking with the transport company. Sometimes - Transport companies take the machine "as is" - but you pay more for that. Some on a pellet.

I usually speak to the transport company to see how THEY plan on transporting it, and work with them.

Here's the way I do it..

You will need plastic wrap, tape and cardboard. Go to a Bike store and pick out the cardboard out of their recycle bin. They are always BIG and sometimes thicker than normal.

Take the head off - wrap it in cardboard and plastic wrap and tape it FIRM
Place a large piece of cardboard over the body.
Place the head - with the backglass facing the playfield on the playfield - Use the tape to secure it to the body - then plastic wrap a few times.
Remove the legs, rear first - drop the cab to the ground. Lift it upright, then remove the front legs.
Wrap legs in bubble wrap, then in a box or plastic wrap to the top of the head.
Go NUTS with plastic wrap and tape. Add a THICK piece of cardboard to the bottom of the machine so that the trolley etc does not damage.

Tape photos and send to the buyer.

Here's a picture of my Street fighter II which went to Adelaide - I used leftover blankets, bubble wrap and tape
Another picture of the Galaxy which went to Sydney

Thanks for the feedack and ideas to all. Strangeways it is amazing to think I now own that work of art that you created!
I read, and admired all the great work and effort you put into this legendary machine!

We had a tournament in our games room tonight and we mapped out where Sinbad will soon sit!

Got onto Gavin and he is keen to help as I understand is usual (Thanks Tony (Creech) and Tony (Illawarra Steelers).

Thanks too Gavin for helping navigate the transport and logistics in Adelaide.

Spoke to Creech and he has the packing underway.

We now have a plan which should see Sinbad in the the Hunter Valley alongside Gorgar and Playboy (78) and Jungle Queen by this time next week.

Thanks to all.

I'm always happy to help out fellow collectors. I hope you enjoy playing the machine as much as I did restoring it  ^^^

Thanks heaps Tony.

See PM It just sent you. The ink had hardly dried..

Apologies for the delay, giving Playboy, Gorgar and Jungle queen a work out with my youngest son in our gamesroom.

Not sure if I had too many beers or the younger generation (11YO) are quicker with the flippers??? But the score was even.

He loves these machines and has grown up with them.

Anyway have a great night. Catching flatties in the lake early with him so will check emails and threads when I return (hopefully with a good feed).
