colour matching white water blue on playfield
« on: December 15, 2009, 03:58:26 PM »
G'day all,

Anyone colour matched the blue on their white water Mc on the playfield? I dropped a post yesterday about how to set down the mylar but now figure I should sweeten her up with a tiny and I mean tiny, lick of paint before applying the mylar. A brand name and colour would be sweet if any one has matched it before.

Cheers and thanks,

Rich.................................................

In my experience its always tough...As every playfield tends to fade and the colours change differently.

I've found if your machine has original plastics - some of the blues on those should be close if not the same (and faded at same rate).

I took mine to the spray paint shop and got them to mix 500ml of the colour.  Some will even do 250ml but charge for matching.

Richard,
You need to get Tamiya Acrylic paints # X-44 Blue and PC-1 white and gently mix together untill you get the perfect colour.
Try a bit and if your not happy just wash it off with water.
Remember after youve touched it up put a little mylar over it to protect it.
Youve seen first hand a job i did on my AFM.
Now you know who i am %.%

Howdy,

Well, i have a white water AND i have a pantone colour-matching book here.

I can give you some colour codes to take to a paintshop to mix if u need, but this is reliant that MY blue is somewhat correct on my machine, no doubt it might also be faded etc? (although my playfield is prety damn clean & colourful).

Marty.

There is a site somewhere that has a list of colours and mixes for various machines.  Can't remember if it was Pinball Pal?????  Whitewater blue was included in the list though.

I will have a look, it had some good stuff on it but as mentioned earlier, it all depends whether your playfield is faded or not.

EDIT:  http://pinballpal.com/colors/

Recommend this guy's stealth mylar as well....great product.  I have used it on all of my machines pretty much and it does a great job and peels off very easily.

Wh20 blues were a real bitch to match, especially the light blue on the mini PF.  I ended up getting several different shades of blues and toning down with white until I got close, took me many tries before I got it spot on, then once I layed down the mylar over it the colour changed slightly  @.@  luckly it was not in a obvious area (ball drop)
My PF was very average and I had to do a lot of touchups, check out my resto here:
