Pinball etiquette...

No return/reply email by the buyer stating the item has been received.  :tumble:

This happens quite a lot with eBay transactions and has happened with a fair few private transactions also...

Out of pure courtesy if i purchase an item, whether from a private/forum sale or eBay sale i go out of my way to inform the seller that i have received the item...I would call this common courtesy and 'pinball etiquette'.

It shits me to no end when i am the seller and i get no reply or notification, especially when i ask for it, of the items arrival and to get over this i simply train my wave of thought too think in this manner...... 

'OK there has been no complaints so they must have of received it !'

To me that's just simply not good enough ! &^&  ^&^  @@^  ^.^

What has happen to common decency ? Does it still exist ?

Common decency has fallen by the wayside. I'm with you Pinfan, nobody has manners any more! A few times I've had to contact the buyer to ask if all is well and if they received their items. You only ever hear from people when there is a problem.

Yeah i agree, it sucks begging for feedback!! when i recieve an item, im very quick to provide feedback and i guess i expect the same when i sell.

Mate, these days I take no news as good news.

I'd go mad if I was waiting to find out if everyone was happy wither their purchase / service.

OK - I'll put my hand up as being one of the 'rude' ones.

It's down to the changes at eBay - mainly with the feedback system. Not being able to leave a neutral or negative for buyers is just plain LUNACY!

I no longer bother to leave FB nor do I expect it on the (now) very rare occasion when I sell something on eBay.

The eBay FB system has 100% lost its value IMO - in fact most of the changes there have DESTROYED what was once a great place - I hardly bother anymore and that's sad coming from a seller that USED to sell over $30K a month there.

Yep it pisses me off as well  ^.^, When selling I only ever place feedback once I've recieve feedback from the purchaser, if they leave no feedback, then I do the same!!

Bloody Ebay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !*!

Have to agree.
For a long time I followed the rules quite strictly. I would leave feedback the moment I received payment as that was the end of the buyers part of the transaction.
Now I rarely bother, too few people leave feedback at all.   ^.^

The buyers obligations are FAR from over just because they paid money!

The buyers obligations are as follows:
bove
(1) Purchase item
(2) Pay for it promptly and (optionally) advise seller of payment method and also his delivery address
(3) Be available for delivery of the package during buusiness hours OR promptly collect package from Post Office or freight company or make suitable delivery arrangements
(4) Open the package and confirm it is what he wanted and ensure there is no damage
(5) Contact seller straight away it the item differs from that purchased or it has been damaged in transit
(6) Negotiate a satisfactory solution in the case of (5) above
(7) Leave suitable feedback if deemed appropriate

Then and ONLY then has the buyer completed his obligations in the transaction - simply 'paying money' is not the buyers ONLY obligation

I realise some sellers have a rather different view to that above but read it and tell me if you think it isn't reasonable or doesn't make sense.

Yep "No news is good news" I reckon-who waves when someone lets you into a line of traffic anymore? I'm afraid to say in most cases manners have disapeared.

My missus and I decided to sell off a few bits and pieces recently, and we noticed that as Sellers - We had to "chase" the feedback. We wanted to make sure the buyer received the goods and was happy. I'd say one in five will leave feedback.

The missus bought some books (BIN) we paid via paypal (immediately) and within hours, the package was sent and feedback left for us - but we had not even received the package !

The classic eBay issue right now - It is infested with LOW feedback members. They don't reply to messages, leave no contact details and when you claim a dispute through the eBay system - you have to wait a week (on top of the week you have already waited for payment) - and the "second chance" buyer has lost interest.

eBay has gone downhill - They are EXCELLENT and claiming their fees, but when there is a dispute - they create so much red tape you become disinterested and the items go back into storage.

well in a sane world that would be true

BUT on ebay/paypal all a buyer is obligated to do is PAY.
Thats it!
Stop using ebay for selling, it is a very unreasonable place to do business.

To overcome all the waiting from clients, i simply send items tracked and that way i dont have to ever wait for info i can get myself.

I will admit though, that sometimes the companies who do have tracking systems sometimes are slow to do the data entry, so the item can show "not moved" so to speak, when it left four days ago, or "undelivered" when it has been delivered.

but it eventually catches up and the worry/wondering is over.

use trackable posting. it is just easier.   ^^^

As a buyer I admit sometimes I forget to notify the seller, it's not intentional, I just get busy.  Also if the seller didn't send me a notice or any email saying it was shipped then I don't have his address in my email for an easy reply.  Those are the ones I usually forget to notify because now that I am a very casual ebay buyer/seller I don't always log into the ebay account and go to the "my ebay". 

As a seller, when I ship I only use a carrier that provides true tracking.  I can log on and see that it was delivered and when it was delivered.  I figure when I see it delivered and if I don't hear from the buyer within a few days then everything must be good.  Selling on Ebay for over 12 years I've only had one or two small issues selling (other than Ebay fees).  Like many I once sold heaps on ebay, now I sell very little.  Last year I sold a total of 5 items, I once was selling over 5 items a day.   
The ramp business was very very good to me.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think I worded my post right.
What I meant was in so far as feedback is concerned I think that the seller should post appropiate feedback when the item is paid for, as they have held up their part of the deal by paying for the item they have won.
Well that's what I do anyway. Each to their own I guess.
