Pacific Pinball Expo & Vegas PHOF trip - Oct 2011 - interest?
« on: October 01, 2010, 01:07:50 PM »
Hi all

My mate Paul ( Freeplay here at AP )  and I are planning a weeks trip to the US next October.
I am writing to ask if any AP members might want to come along with us.

I will be booking and organising for Paul and myself and once we lock in the exact dates, costs , accomodation info etc I am more than happy to provide all the details to any other AP member so they can book the same places at the same times.

A rough itinerary is as follows.....

Fly to San Francisco - arrive Friday.
Sat - PP Expo
Sunday PP Expo
MIGHT squeeze a visit to Alcatraz Prison on a night tour in if possible as well while we are in SFO *!@
Monday - Rental car to North LA ( Santa Clarita )
Tuesday - Six Flags Magic Mountain
Wednesday - Drive to Vegas
Thursday & Friday - Vegas - obviously a visit to the Pinball Hall of Fame
Saturday - Drive back to LA for nighttime flight home

Now - I am also HAPPY to organise / co-ordinate the trip for 2 other people, meaning I will organise for 4 people in total.
I would prefer to have an even number of people ( to assist with hotel room bookings etc )
4 people can also split a car rental bill. If we get MORE than 4 people interested then someone else should hopefully step up and be the co-ordinator/ organisor for the next batch of 4 people.

Loosely - we are allowing up to 4k each for this trip - thats to cover EVERYTHING
I am basing this on the following....in Aussie Dollars

Airfare - 1200 Aussie
Accomodation  per head - 700 for 8 nights = 90 per night average
Daily Allowance for food and spending 180 ( 60 should KILL your food bill each day )
Car Rental per person - 400

Now obviously you should decide to come if you are 1000% commited to actually coming.

I will be organising this in April next year when I return from ......wait for it......the USA !
2 trips in one year and I HATE flying - go figure.

Make sure you go check out the Pacific Pinball Expo on the web - 300++ games and other 'entertainment'

PM me , email me or call me on 0421 840015 if interested.

Sound's like you'll have fun o'plenty.
Speaking from experience, I'd recommend that while in Vegas, take two shorter trips to the PHOF on consecutive days rather than one marathon session (which you'll want to do once you're there) on one day. After a while, you get groggy, stiff and punchy playing all those machines.

Wake up, have a leisurely morning piddling around your area, have lunch then trundle to the PHOF. Leave before you get sore & groggy (or shortly after maybe) to go enjoy the Vegas nightlife. Then repeat for day two.

Also, personally I really like the downtown area (Fremont street) rather than "the strip", but maybe that's just me. Google "Fremont street experience" if you want to get an idea what's there. OF course this would depend on what you want to do while in Vegas and this is just my personal preference. It's further from the PHOF but still only takes 10 minutes to drive there if you don't make a wrong turn or three.

Have fun.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.

I like that section as well and plan to spend a night there in April on the family trip - the old Neon Museum is down that way as well which would be cool to see.
I was there years ago before the "Experience" was created, it was even different to The Strip way back then.

What a great offer I'll speak to the head cook and testicle chopper offer and gauge her reaction. Would love to go but highly doubt funds will allow me to join you on this excellent adventure.

I think by the time the trip comes around, there will be a good 8 or more people. This could be the trip of all trips. Look out America, the Aussies are coming !  ^^^ ^^^

Nah, won't be coming unfortunately - but if you are going to get a Hummer, you might as well go all the way.

Sounds like a great trip, though.
