ST:TNG diverter coil stuck

Wow, this machine is killing me.

After problem after problem after problem in a supposedy fully working STTNG, my bottom divertor coil is stuck on to the extent its smokin. After a bit of research I may need to replace the transistor and resistor in the driver board corresponding to the coil. My problem is Jaycar only have 2k7ohm 1/2 watt (2.7kohm) but the board asks for a 1/4 watt resistor. Will a 1/4 be an issue? Can I just use this resistor? Any other ideas as to why the coil may be stuck on?

Common problem on the often problematic ST TNG. Before responding with a possible technical fix, you should notify the seller, as most reputable sellers should offer a shop warranty. A "fully working" machine should not have these issues.

The problem will most likely be on the driver board (Q15 or Q16). You should also tie the 50 V line with an additional wire as per Clay's Guide (3/4 of the way down this page);

You can use a 1/2 W resistor in the place of the 1/4 W resistor. You cannot substitute a 1/2 W with a 1/4 Watt.

I spoke to my supplier and he's going to take care of it for me.

I've fixed previous problems myself as I find working on these machines is quite satisfying. I think my ST:TNG may be the first of many. 

The missus is talking about moving the pin's to the garage, but if I play my cards right I might move the baby into the garage and setup the pins in the nursery.  or maybe not.
