Beautiful Old Woodrail Find
« on: November 08, 2010, 02:17:24 PM »
Read this on RGP and just had to share, take a look at this "one man's trash in another man's treasure" lucky find:

This 1951 Williams Shoot the Moon showed up on my doorstep last
Christmas Eve.  My inlaws were driving by a strip mall near their
house and noticed it parked by a dumpster ready to be thrown out.
They know that I am into pins so they loaded it into their van and
gave it to me to see if there was anything I could do with it.

After almost a year of off and on work, I finally got it playing 99%
tonight.  I have done zero cosmetic work to it other than clean it up
with Novus and some other things on the cabinet.

As you can see, this thing is beautiful original condition.  The
playfield has very slight wear.  The backglass is almost perfect.  The
cabinet has, what appears to be, all original paint.  It is pretty
much original right down to the instruction cards.  The thought that
someone was just throwing it away really amazes me.  It really just
needed a thorough going through using Clay's guide.  I rebuilt all of
the steppers, adjusted switches, tumbled some hardware and just
carefully re-assembled everything.

Special thanks to Doug Dabkowski, a fellow Detroit Pinball League
member, for helping me through how some of the features should
function (yes, I bought a schematic, but I kinda struggle with them
sometimes).  He was invaluable in helping me zero in on a few
technical issues.  Doug recommended that I leave it as original as
possible as it seems to have survived the past 59 years pretty well.

What a great find and fortune for the new owner. What a shame the original owner felt the need to throw it out.

If only I could have that luck!
Detroit, Michigan must be a great place - Shaggy and Norm live there as well.
When I win lotto, I'm going to .....
Wanted: GTB Aquarius backglass. Any playfield bits and backglasses from any EMs - nothing is junk to me.
