Can you wax a playfield with contact on it?
« on: December 28, 2010, 08:32:55 PM »
Hi there

Further to my post regarding mylar, after reading the comments from everyone, I decided to go with contact on the playfield (WMS Superstar) rather than mylar.

Having looked at thegeneral condition of the playfield, the quality of the touchups, the ball swirl that really could not be removed and having regard to the amount of use the game will see in the next few years, I opted with the contact.

Overall, I think the results look pretty good and will take photos to show the progress of the restoration.

Can contact be waxed? Should it be waxed or just left as is?

If it should be waxed, what is recommended?

Thanks as always

Ric

I've used Farmland Furniture Polish (Coles or Wollies) to clean and give a shine to playfields with contact on them. I just never spray anything directly onto the p'filed, but into tissues. I use tissues for lots of cleaning. As soon as it shows dirt I chuck it for a new one.

Yeah you can wax over Contact / Mylar .

Just be sure to use a wax with natural ingredients . Pure caranuba wax is best . The paste type - not the liquid . I wouldn't use any wax that contains strong solvents etc. on any playfield as there is no telling how it will react .

The polishing kits that Treasure Cove sell are also very good for bringing up dull contact / mylar to a nice glossy shine .

Tresurecove polishing kit is worth every cent - but it can get messy  %.%
