Anyone modded their EM??
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:21:36 AM »
Gday all ..
Just wondering if anyone has modified one of their EM's in terms of game features?
I know .. you've all got Gottliebs so no need eh?

Thought I'd share that I'm making some changes to one of the features on my Zaccaria Moon Flight EM.
It has a feature called O R B I T , which is basically hitting a series of 4 targets to activate a 6 position stepper.
Positions 1 thru 5 light up each of the letters spelling ORBIT , when you light I, this activates Special on the center target and when you complete O R B I T, the game adds 300,000 points, and keeps adding groups of 300,000 points until you hit one of the 4 targets again (which is difficult to do)
The Orbit stepper only resets to 0 when you start a new game.

Personally I don't like it this way, so am working on changing it so that when  ORBIT is lit, the game counts 300,000 then the ORBIT stepper resets.
So far I've changed it so it only counts once, but for some reason it counts 1,300000 then stops (I don't yet understand the mechanism that controls the counting) .. once I understand how it works I might be able to have it count, say 1,000000 when you complete ORBIT.

Just wondering if anyone else has changed any gameplay feature on their EM ??

Cheers
Dave

Lot's of people tweak or mod their SS or DMD machines, so no harm in doing it to an EM, especially if it enhances the gameplay.

Depends if you are the 'must be original' type or don't mind if it is different (I am guessing you are the latter).

I've finally figured out how to reset the Orbit Stepper once Orbit is reached (which lights centre target and outlanes for special)

Now, you reach Orbit, light specs, collect 300,000 points and Orbit stepper resets , so you can try to reach Orbit again within the same game.
It all came down to a lot of schematic reading to eventually find a suitable normally open switch, that closes to earth once Orbit is reached  and wire the output of that to the earth lug on the Orbit stepper reset coil #*#

The beauty of EMs is that you can theoretically change any of the rules or scoring - its just a matter of working out how

I had a Williams Liberty Bell that I tweaked a bit.  Nothing very fancy but changed the backglass lighting to an animated sequence, added some extra relays to handle free play credits using a button on the front, added a chimes on / off switch, replaced the transformer & put it all in a seperate housing so you could not zap yourself.  All pretty boring but was fun hacking the machine (-:

Cheers,
Scott.
