CPR playfield missing holes
« on: May 19, 2011, 08:41:31 PM »
I've been told that you have to drill your own holes into CPR playfields. I'm guessing this refers to post holes etc. What I want to know is why? Is it that they don't have the equipment to do it, which seems strange. Or is it because they would have a repeatability issue or the artwork isn't within spec?

Any thoughts as to why? I know I'd be put off a little to do the task and find I stuff up a good pf and do some dough. I can't wait for them to bring out a STARGATE pf.

Not sure about CPR, but the IPB ones were just "dimpled", so the start hole was there but you had to drill it. Obvioulsy saves a major job for them.  I'm sure Nino will know if it's the same for CPR.

Speaking of Stargate, anyone who buys mine won't need a repro, the playfield is mint..

Yep - CPR dimple the playfields as a guide, and then you complete the drilling. There is a guide on how to do this on their website

So what were nos playfields like when the games came out. Were they just dimpled?

Wms
all T-nutted & dimpled  if close to the end of the games run.

followed by dimpled only

then thirdly  not dimpled ( these were usually the WMS rejects that didn't make it as far as the dimpling machine.  or they had started a new pf/game and had loaded a new dimple plate

Sterns are at lest dimpled (as they do theres in house)

So what were nos playfields like when the games came out. Were they just dimpled?

EMs and SS up to the mid 80s - No such thing as "NOS". They were use in the production run. NOS was more a case of "leftovers" or "defects". Factory employees and executives often took home playfields and backglasses. Backglasses were kept as a "spare part" which nicely fits in with what we call "NOS" today.

Later machine - mid 80's onwards - Greg is correct as far as I know.
