Numbered pinball machines
« on: May 22, 2011, 03:58:34 PM »
Is there a point to having numbered games?
Reading up on the WoZ forum, I notice that people are listing their game numbers.
I do not get it, unless you have game number 1, who cares?

I know that Gene has offered those BBB owners matching numbers on his Kinpin remake, and I guess I would want to match up those machine numbers.

But I think the LE of LOTR were numbered, why would it bother any one if they had game 415 or game 298?

How big was the re-run of BBB?
I thought it was only 117
(or is the original 10 added to the count?)

182 was the initial number, and they made another half dozen or so out of what was left once the pre-orders were satisfied. They apparently ran 200 playfields, and a couple were damaged or rejects. Gene kept two playfields, but did sell me one a while after the run.

I have kept/logged the serial numbers and game/machine number on all my dmd machines for a few reasons.

It is just interesting to see in the production run, where your machine was made. ie- at the beginning, middle or end obviously. But, it also is interesting to see if the first machines were made for the USA or Europe/Australia market etc.

With my Batman Forever Data East machine, for example, it was made in the last few days of the production run (apx 20 machines before the last one) and was a Aussie delivered machine etc. Some interesting info like that can be established from game numbers/serial numbers.

I also have a Tales From the Crypt which was sent to China of all places, and apparently, only a few were. Game numbers or production serials can turn up all sorts of interesting information.  ^^^ ^^^
