ic + more storage sollution,anti-static
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:15:47 PM »
hi all, having worked in the aerospace industry all my working life.i am paranoid in the damage that can be done to components wrongly handled and stored.I store all my components in custom made anti-static boxes.not just ic's.diodes and even resistors.latent damage can cause working components to fail over time.this is my storage sollution that i may offer to members if there is sufficient interest.see pics.for a 20 bin anti-static lined storage box,i am thinking around $39 bucks.feedback would be helpfull, damien

the bins are quite deep,so you can fit in extra layers of conductive foam.for extra storage.

Yep, Great idea.
Storing IC's in antistatic foam ( Velostat) is an absolute must to avoid static damage.
And using an antistatic wrist strap when handling in between is also a good idea.

I store mine in velostat only, but using the parts cases is actually better because it avoids them getting crushed when stuff gets stacked on top.

i also use a freely available program to catalogue the parts by box number and compartment number+supplier info, cost etc

I must be lucky so far as i wear my lambs wool moccasins when repairing my pinball machines, and no antistatic straps.
some times i may touch the earth strap if i think of it. &^&

Just a suggestion that works for me.....

If you place the foam squares (full of ICs) vertically in the compartments, you can get MORE ICs (double-sided) in, and it's far more EASIER to pull 'up' the foam sleeve to extract the ICs.

digging around at the bottom of the compartment is a pain everytime....
