GI troubleshooting
« on: October 01, 2011, 11:10:30 AM »
Hi guys,
Due to absolute boredom of watching tv for the last 7 weeks I thought I'd give my stuffed arms a go and replug J115 which is made up of all yellow wires on my T2.
I noticed that the tech who repinned these did an ok job but because these wires are so thick they pull out of the socket without too much force. So I figured my GI problem could be as simple as bad conenctions.

So I removed each wire one and inserted it into new plug but mid way my arms were killing me so I had to walk away for a few minutes. Then I continued and near completion found I had put a wire in the keyed socket. So I fixed that and then found I pinned the plug back to front in that I couldn't insert it onto the board. Had to rest again but now am confused and unsure whether the wires are all mixed up

Finished the job and I have no general GI where I had only the left hand side out before.

So I need to find a way to trace what goes with what as easily as possible especially not involving lifting playfield etc too much. Can I put croc clips on the molex pins and connect pairs onto the pcb pins the trace the socket configuration?

Thanks Nino. Got the back glass lit and CPU inserts but no left or right GI's. Will keep persisting slowly

Thanks to Nino I'm back to where I started with the left hand GI's out and I don't have the right slight flasher working. I have done the following:

Checked the flasher bulb and ok
Checked the violet wires from the start of the string under the pf and at the plug to continuity and ok
Check for continuity between the white/violet and violet pins on the pcb and ok

BUT I touched other pins and got a beep ie. White/violet and white/green I get continuity. Pins 1,2,6 to 11 all beep together. I'm guessing this is not good or are they common in some way?

Also I get 0v at the first bulb where violet and white/violet attach

Please help if you can as I'm going to wait before pulling the board out again

Thanks

Remove each of the GI fuses and test for continuity. J120 and J121(playfield) should be re inserted. Look for poor connectors and pins.

This is mine after sorting it out cause the manual was wrong and someone had hacked the leads

The fuses dont connect there but its just for ease of use :)

J120 is top backbox Insert bulbs

J121 is Left String, Cpu String, Right String

Just looking at your pic of J115, shouldn't the bottom 4 wires be all solid yellow and the top 4 all white/yellow ???
