The bug has bitte - hooray!
« on: March 01, 2010, 04:03:28 PM »
Got to love this. So finally after everyones great help my JP is fully functioning, working great and creating a real buzz at home. SO much so that my brother has decided that he must now get a machine (how exciting!!) and Dad wants one too! This also frees up funds for a daytona (super exciting!)

He loves ramps and is a massive comic book fan, he is only 24 so its going to have to be a DMD game. My suggestions to him so far have been Batman Forever and WH20 which I think both suit the kind of person that he is and how he likes his pinballs played - plentry of ramps, fast moving and some fun game modes.

We are looking around that kind of entry levelish kind of price between $2-$2.5k so any other suggestions would be appreciated, (things like toppers and such arent particularly important as long as playfields are good etc etc). As much as im going to cop for saying this FT isn't going to work haha

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

For that price bracket I would seriously consider a Last Action Hero.  Dorky movie, but the game is super super fun.  Its actually the sister game to JP.  Modes are similar, but 6 multiball, 3 massive magnets which cause mayhem and a big old crane in the middle of the playfield to move the locked balls!

You'd pickup (maybe) a WH20 privately....MartyMachine is selling one at the moment which comes with lots of extras.  That would be worth a look if it hasn't sold.

T2 is a great game, but you would struggle find at under $2500 at the moment.  Getaway is a blast.

Everyones's tastes are different.  I would definitely suggest getting them to put a few hours in playing different games to see what grabs them.  You don't want to buy a pin based on a theme only.

I think MarkC was talking about a meet soonish, which is a great opportunity to test drive and see heaps of different games.  Or pinball faith at Bumper.

Thanks for the heads up Marty. I was up at Marks the other day but never got around to having a bash on the machines. Will take a look at the machines you've suggested. Look forward to trying out a few machines and catching up/meeting some folks at the next meet  ^^^

martys advice is spot on.
Last action hero is a good game.not too expensive. Batman Forever is a looker for sure, but plays real slow.
Getaway is a blast. etc etc

Play the games at Marks or ask a member on the forum for a visit. If Marty has a machine for sale, you can bet it will be real nice and working 100%.

That is very important when getting family or friends into a game. You dont want something that needs work or dies. The Dr Who pin is fun and the darleks are a blast. Maybe Marty could be a good answer for you. Have a look. His website shows the quality of workmanship. You couldnt go wrong there.  ^^^
So many bloody great choices with great members to help you out. Great hobby hey !  ^^^

Steve,

You're welcome to pop in for a game.  I've got the Black Hole, Op Thunder (cheap but loads of fun), Police Force (best game ever IMO), Funhouse & Getaway.

A good variety of pins to play and help make a decision.

I'm having a meet on 10 April if you and your brother feel like a weekend away in Albury.  My machines aren't the best ever machines but they all work and would give you a bit of an idea what you/he might like and not like.  Good opportunity to meet some like minded guys from Vic, NSW and Qld.

I currently have WH2O, Judge Dredd, Flintstones, Dracula, Police Force, Hulk, Jacks Open, Class Of 1812, Jurassic Park, Frankenstein and Pistol Poker and there should be a few extra machines here on the day as well.  Good chance a couple of machines will be offered for sale as well.

The more the merrier.......

Don't worry too much, there were plenty more on that container.

Actually, who knows - all the others may be sold already.

I agree - and with these titles you can move them on without incurring a loss as their price does not fluctuate.
