Stern Meteor
« on: January 22, 2012, 08:26:22 AM »
Hello,
I am restoring a Stern Meteor. When cleaning it up I noticed that the sound board (sb300) was not hooked up. The Mu board had one ribbon cable hanging from it and the sound board had another.

Now the strange part, both ribbon cables are 16 pin cables with a total if 32 pins.  The connectors they hook up to is 34 pins.

Are there two pins not being used on the sound board/Mu connection, Or did someone just screw up? If these are not the right cables, does anyone know where i can get a set of 17 pin single track cables or a 34 pin?

Thanks

Yes, they are the correct cables for a Meteor - the last two pins are not used.  When reconnecting make sure the pins line up, ie look for the pin marked '1' on the MPU and make sure it matches the pin marked '1' on the sound card.  The fact the sound cables are disconnected could indicate the sound card is stoppping the machine booting, as Stern's are won't to do!  If this is the case look for broken wires in the cable or try reseating the connectors.  VERY occasinally it is caused by the sound board itself.

cheers
Ian

The SB100 & SB300 are extremely over complicated sound boards with a very convaluted connection system... horrible boards
