EM Help needed "Stern Disco"
« on: February 10, 2012, 04:11:26 PM »
Game was working fine. I replaced some blown globes and accidently
dropped the playfield about 6 inch's. I started a game the score reels
reset to zero but just kept going. I had to manually open the Start
relay as it was holding voltage. Obviously a contact up-line was not
opening to break the power to the start relay and allowing the game to
start. (At least that is my opinion)

The game coins up. The game activates the lock relay when you power
up. But when you press the start button it does as described above.

I have a schematic but it is not that clear to me. A contact needs
cleaning or re-gapping is my assumption. I have checked all the globe
holders for short and all the playfield contacts (All are open)

Any suggestions as to the likely candidate would be great.

I have some help comming on Sunday but any thoughts would be great.

Chris

Chris - I'm not familiar with Stern EMs, but since you have had no response as yet, I thought I'd chime in with a suggestion.

Is the score motor still running while the score reels are turning ? Is it one score reel or all of them ?

sounds to me like a wire has been severed.

Stupid suggestion time - with the game off - turn the score motor 180 degrees and turn on the game.

Stupid suggestion #2 - while the score motor is still turning, look for a contact that is not closing.

Well we can narrow it down a bit which helps to begin solving an issue.
...machine starts OK, adds credit Ok when coin contacts are closed, but goes cranky when start button is pressed.

Seems to me the RESET is out on this....... score reels set to zero but then continue.

Score reels turn and zero point is normally registered... having said that this only occured once the PF was dropped, it would probably be wise to rule out contacts in the header for now.... id be looking at the RESET relay... make sure all contacts that should be touching are etc... this would in turn talk to the START and 1ST BALL relays... same again.. check contacts
