Chip installing

installing a chip, is there a certain direction they need to go in??
the little half moon notch is the top right??

You should see a mark on the socket and a mark on the chip as to which way the chips run,if no socket just look at the surrounding chips and generally on a pcb they will all run in the same direction.

Unless its a Zaccaria sound board.. 1 chip is in reverse on these

If you look at the chip with the notched end to the left, the No. 1 pin is the bottom left pin. This may also be indicated by a small dot or indendation adjacent to pin 1 on the top of the chip and this is also generally how it is shown on a PCB layout drawing.
