I'm busy preparing the storage building for the new arrivals and under an old used piece of billiard cloth, I found a fully restored "Bumper Pool" table. These were very common in the coffee shops of the 60's and 70's. I dismantled it and brought it home. I've reassembled it and watched a few youtube videos on how to play it. Once I found the balls etc, I found it to be an interesting game. Much smaller than a Billiard table, but just as much fun. The kids have been playing it (without billiard cues) and they really enjoy it. Something really different. Anyhow, my Father dropped past a couple of days ago, and I showed him the table. He had totally forgotten that it was restored, and stored for the last 10 years. He restored it 10 years ago and then covered it, as he was out of the industry, and just needed to pass the time. He built the table himself, sometime in the early 50's. He used to have several of these tables - which he made - and sited them as for North as Newcastle (where there were no operators in NSW). He told me he "left behind" several of these tables (in NSW) as he could not be bothered driving up there to pick them up ! It is coin operated ($1 a game), but I've set it at "free play" !
This is most likely the only restored genuine hand made Bumper Pool Table in Australia. I thought I'd share the pictures before I decide on whether I'm going to keep it or not !
