Lights on or off?
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:31:51 PM »
How good do pinnies look with the room lights off! With just the machine lights on It can be a bit harder see the ball for a game or two but once your eyes adjust to a bit of glare off the glass your away. I love turning the sound up, switching the lights off and banging a few balls around. I reckon it's the best way to shutout the day and totally absorb myself in a game.
How do you guys get into a game?
On another note, anyone have anti glare glass on there pins? If so what's is it like?

Lights off definitely  *%* *%* or at least dimmed or low lighting in the room. I sometimes go down to the pinball dungeon in the evenings and turn ALL the games on and turn the shed lights off, turn the music up and play a few games!! Much better atmosphere for a gameroom i reckon, with low lighting or even just the lights from the pins lighting up the room  *%*

A mate of mine who has a few pins, likes to have a lamp sitting beside the game shining done ON THE PLAYFIELD when he plays them   *!@ he does this with about 3 of his half dozen or so games and it really bugs the shit outta me.. i mean i'll start a game at his house without the lamps on and he'll come along and turn the bastard on when he wants a game against me  ^&^ ^&^ i just find it distracting.. maybe its a ploy to make me play bad so he can beat me i guess  :lol

In my double garage, I have the following machines set up.

Star Trek Next Gen , Batman Forever, Royal Rumble, Dirty Hary, X Files, Starship Troopers, Viper Night Drivin, Popeye, Fishtales, Star Wars Trilogy,
Last Action Hero, Revenge from Mars, Waterworld, Frankenstein, Tales from the Crypt, and 1 or 2 more I cant remember.  I have another loungeroom with another 18 or 20 machines in it and when the machines are all fired up, it looks the goods in there as well.

I only turn the lights on for the machines and nothing else. The soft glow is just awesome and the lighting of nothing but the machines looks terriffic.
I hate lights on when the room looks so good with nothing on but the machines. Its good just to sit there and look around at all the dotmatrix displays doing all there different things. Also, the attract modes are turned on for all machines so at random, various pinnys will just burst out with audio and its really cool to listen to.  The atmosphere of a gamesroom looks the best with it being lit like a camp fire glow.

Just add alot of fine bourban, cold coke and ice, play a few games and just sit back and admire the artwork and the fine design work various pinball legends have designed and invented for this fine hobby. Can it get any better (the nice glow of a pinball machine) for us dedicated pinheads ?, probably not.lol

I prefer lights off in the room, but it does make some games impossibly hard to play in the dark areas.

It also highlights some major flaws in playfield lighting from inception of the machine itself.
It's certainly inspired me to add additional lighting in dark areas to liven it up.

Lights off completely with led modified games is near impossible to play especially with led flashers. It's like looking into the sun. You need a little room lighting in these cases
Still loving my Metallica Premium

That's a good point. Check out this mod

It addressed the dark area at the top left of a BOP......Of course all you need is a BOP to make it any good but the Ideas there. Lots of other cool lighting mods by the same people here too.
