I haven't posted here in a while so I thought I'd pass on a little tidbit for the new year. I hope some of you find it useful.
I haven't fiddled with a pinnie for quite some time, but I'm always working on
something. I ran across this and thought it might be handy for stepping back from those occasional, inevitable mistakes we make from time to time"

But while these things are perfect for fixing mistakes, if you have pre-mail you don't need either.
Pre-mail is one of the amazing things the internet wizards have come up with which allows you to send yourself a message to get to you yesterday or so.
I set my sound scheme up so instead of new messages triggering a "You Have Mail" thing, it says "NOOOOOO!". So when I hear it, I just stop what I'm thinking about and figure out where I'm screwing up so I don't make the mistake in the first place.
One interesting phenomenon is that, since it's only the future "me" after a screw-up who is sending me these messages and the present "me" is adjusting my actions accordingly, the present "me" doesn't remember ever sending myself a message via pre-mail. It's always the future, mistake-making "me" who sends these messages, i.e. after you don't make the goof, you no longer need to send the message.
It's a little annoying because I'm always hearing my computer scream "NOOOOOO!" (at least I
think it's coming from my computer), presumably because I'm constantly on the verge of screwing up. After hearing several of these, I begin to get a little miffed at the slow-minded future "me" who makes so many mistakes. I wish he would just get a little smarter so I could get some relief from hearing these voices.
