I think you have captured the finish of the original paintwork. Stern's paint seemed to be thicker and leaned towards more of a gloss than a satin finish of other manufacturers. Thats why their cabinets rarely faded.

Really nice job mitch.

thanks guys  ^^^ it turned out good but not nearly as good as my KISS cab did.. mainly because this cab had really bad planking in the plywood.. more on one side than the other that took a LOT of priming and sanding, some planking is still a bit visible up close, so im not completely happy with it, but the owner is so its all good.

Hi all.. been a while since the last update on the Galaxy can resto i took on, but its now back with its owner...finally  $#$

i had been going back and forth between this one and a TZ which i had to repair/shop out for another client (it can be partially seen in the 1st pic, background... what a bastard THAT thing was to pull the pf apart and put back together)  ^&^ but im glad to say that BOTH are finished so i can finally relax do some work on my OWN games  #*#

Anyway time for some Galaxy pics... 1st couple of pics, the repainted coin door fitted into the cab, done in silver hammered metal, and one of the backbox with the boards and insert panel refitted.

since i had no joy sourcing a lockdown bar for this pin, and Martin who owns this game tried sourcing a lockdown bar in his travels to Sydney, hunting around all the pinball places he could find there.. again to no avail  ^&^
It was time for me to get creative!! I had an old Wms EM lockdown bar and clamp assy from a SuperStar that i parted out about 18 yrs ago. I worked out that this could be made to fit with a few modifications to the clamping mechanism. This too was painted in the hammertone paint to pretty it up a bit. Sorry i didnt get any pics of the mods done to make it fit, but it involved a few cuts with an angle grinder, and a couple of holes needed to be drilled to fit over the coin door surround carriage bolts/nuts. Also the pf front metal hangers that slot into the lockdown bar clamp had to be relocated to fit the Wms clamp. Plus the lockdown bar itsself needed a couple of modifications, involving a couple of cutouts to fit over the relocated pf hangers. Hope that all makes sense.. i'll try to get some pics of the mods done tomorrow when i visit Martin and post them if anyone wants to see how i made it all work.

Last pic, shows the game starting to be reassembled in Martins house.

More pics.. My apologies for the quality of these pics, or lack of!! they were taken with my mobile phone camera, in Martins house.
Powered up for the first time in about six months or more, i had already redone the boards for him before i pulled the game apart for the cab restore, so it pretty much powered up first go, just a few switch adjustment/cleaning issues to deal with.

Anyway it wasn't long before we were playing Galaxy and i was reliving my youth.. and kicking Martin's butt i must say  :lol :lol

Notice the bg has a few cracks in the paint which can be seen with the game lights on, its still a pretty good glass imo, but Martin has another REALLY NICE bg.. near perfect bg that he bought off US ebay to go into the game.. hmmm... i might have to try and con his old bg outta him  && u never know.. i might find a galaxy some day that needs a bg

Looks great, Mitch ! The backglasses are ALWAYS flaked or crazed. I've never seen a really good one.

thanks Nino. I've seen the new backglass for this game, and it seriously is NICE  *%* Martin bought both a galaxy glass AND a Wildfyre one at the same time.. the wildfyre BG is like new!!

he hasnt put the new BG in as yet because it needs a lift channel for it, and he wants to wait til the game is completely 100% working properly before putting it in.
