Horrified, would you buy this if it came up for sale
« on: February 09, 2013, 10:30:48 AM »
I saw this the other day and I was shocked and disappointed by the restore technique on Cactus Canyon back box. Especially since my dad was a woodwork teacher and I grew up making all sorts of things but to see a collectable machine butchered in such a way whether it be a low or high end restore, just order a new head box, not chisel off the a layer of ply and apply a new layer of ply, it will never be the same.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Would you buy this if it hit the market whether it be a low and high end restore?
for me no way as I would be concerned what other techniques were used throughout the restore regardless of the bling fitted to it - there's my warning,

Yikes!! Why???? I can't begin to think why you would remove the ply veneer that way? Why couldn't you sand/fill etc? Got to be less work for a better result?

The strength in veneer ply is in the cris cross layers. Once you mess with that, the strength is well and truly. cactus .

This is a disgrace. I'm a little confused. Is this clown parting the game out so he is deliberately destroying the head ?

Swinks - Are you suggesting the game was being "restored" ?  !@#

If so, and the rest of my post assumes that it is, has the guy "stripping the cabinet" worked out "how" to properly re-decal a game ? How the hell do you put the new decal on !!@ Does he bog the head so it weighs a ton ?

I've seen some shocking workmanship over the past 30 years, but whoever this is - he takes the cake. Absolutely clueless.

(now someone is going to tell me this was a joke - right ?)

I didn't aswer the question - which infers that this game is currently being "restored" or is "restored" ?

"Horrified, would you buy this if it came up for sale"

If I knew someone that wanted to buy this abomination, I'd let them know. "High end restore" or "low end restore" ? This is not a restoration. Period.

Best of luck to the person who purchases it.

To be fair, at least this time well most of the restoration, rebuilding, things being done to the machine are being documented and the buyer will be informed..

Just watched it and I really don't get what the hell he's trying to do! Is he making kindling for his fire? Have I missed something, how do we know this is his version of a restoration and not just someone being a dick!  Makes no sense to me and why film it and post it on You tube anyway???????
