am I Caruso here or just going through a mid life pinball crisis?

Just got off my SS Space Invaders pinball and feel absolutely on cloud nine. The couple of drinks during game play may have contributed to the feeling but I do believe playing a SS machine is like having one last fling with your best ex girlfriend.

Just like too many things on the forum are being taken too seriously, a bit like playing a dmd game, I'm finding the joy of no multiball, complete a set of seemly simple tasks that tend to elude me most games is just pure magic. Its pinball!

Are there other dmd guys that have finally purchased an SS to their collection experiencing this euphoria? And if so what game did for them?

I have 6 dmd's and have been told that ideally you need a few more before venturing into the world of SS but I think if you find a quality game play SS or one that takes you back, adding one to the collection sooner than later is a must.

You should only get games that appeal to you
Some people like the latest Sterns, others think that EMs are the best

I can't believe I've clocked up over 600 games on the SI to maybe 30 on the rest of my dmd's this past 3 months

Your not alone, I recently brought another members Flash Gordon with the view to do a total restore on it and I can't stop playing it. Absolutely love it and funny enough my 10 year old son has been playing it heaps as well though he's never shown more than a short passing interest with my DMD machines.
 I'm currently collecting parts for it and having a rotisserie made before I get started but it plays just fine for now and I know I'll really miss it while I have it apart for the restoration.

I get the same feeling, Rob. There are times where I lose hours at a time, and i don't realize it. I'm a classic SS man at heart, but I just played an hour on Dr Who, and I kept going back for another game. Pinball does that to you - and it is great to step out of the "comfort zone" and play a different machine. I miss my Space Invaders, but I know it is in a good home and it is played often !

+1 mine plays just fine but will be down after tomorrow to freshen up the pcbs, same with the embryon, then maybe a few games before starting the resto. I think the shorter game times help to add to the enjoyment. I have played some long games, 30+ minutes and smetime you think it would be nice to lose the ball. With the SS you finish a game and you think, one more game, it'll take only a couple of minutes and then its bed time. Next thing you know, you have played another 20 games and you've lost another hour or so.

I still like the dmd's for all the missions to be completed and the skill required to max each mission, but you can just flip and still sometimes have a good scoring game. Do that on a SS and after 20 flips your score has increased by 50 points and you haven't heard a sound from the machine. You know that dead play where if it was a dmd, it would go into ball search mode. But usually on a dmd the ball floundering more times than not will fall into a scoop or something and a mode will commence.

One of my favourite all time games is BALLY LOST WORLD... absolutely nothing special about game play.. light the letters and bash away at the captive ball.. spinner, kick out and pops.. get combos going and rack up the points... classic no frills game.. just pure pinball with great artwork and a well balanced PF layout.. moved it on and miss the old girl.. but... i wish it had been made an EM game.. the frantic click of the score reels as the spinner goes nuts and then bonuses on the captive ball.
Would have been a top of the class EM but is instead a classic SS game that should have been a keeper

If playing a SS is like a last fling with the EX, then playing an EM must be like your first xxxx 
I love all eras but EM's are my fav. As long as it works properly. Nothing wrong with playing just for a no frills high score - CLASSIC FUN
