Mansfield trip, new pin no possums!
« on: November 07, 2013, 06:42:32 PM »
First up, huge thanks to Blair (Pintoxicated) for taking the time to do the 4hr round trip from Albury to  Mansfield with me yesterday afternoon to pick this machine up. I can also highly recommend the pots and Parmy’s from the Mansfield Hotel if you’re ever in the area.

It’s a bit of a long story so I won’t bore you with all the details but a couple of months ago I was driving with a mate of mine when he took a call from his wife who was away on a girls weekend on a property just out of Mansfield, anyway she mentioned that there was a pinball machine sitting out under the back veranda.  From there questions were asked and it turns out that the only reason it wasn’t at the tip already was because it was too heavy to lift. Apparently they’d owned it for 20 years or so and it hadn’t worked for much of that time. Anyway my mate didn’t want it so they gave it to me. It took a bit to organize a suitable pick up time when no one was using the house but they were very happy to see it gone and I was very happy to have a free pin saved  from the tip and its in much better condition that I thought it would be so it shouldn’t cost to much to get it going again either.

Picked it up last night, here’s some pictures.

Apart from some ware between the flippers and around the kick out hole the rest of the playfield is very good.

Some more pics

No acid damage at all on the boards

Unfortunately the backglass has long been replaced with a poor quality translite which has faded badly in the sun.

A bit of damage to the cabinet decals on the right side but the left side is good considering and the cabinet is solid.

Great find!

Cudos to Blair for being a top bloke as always.

I was browing eBay UK last night and noticed a lot of US stuff which doesn't get listed on eBay AUS.  Classic Arcades were selling a heap of backglasses as well as other UK people so maybe worth checking on there..

Thanks Marty, I keep an eye on US eBay from time to time but don't normally look at the UK. I'll check it out and hopefully a backglass pops up sometime.

Anyone with a parts catalog with this game in it maybe able to tell me if these are the correct posts. Most of them are this type in my game but there are also 3 other types of red posts on the playfield as well. I assume someone has just replaced posts with what they had handy but would like to confirm before I order some new ones.

Awesome, fun drop target game too!

"anyway she mentioned that there was a pinball machine sitting out under the back veranda."

You gotta love 'em when they start doing the spotting for you, and calling them in - tell your mate he's got a keeper there!

I can't believe this machine nearly ended up as landfill.  The boards in it are probably one of the nicest set of boards I have seen in a Bally considering it's age and history.  I was sure the MPU was going to be melted.  Even the transformer looked almost new from what I could see of it.  A bit of TLC and this machine will come back to life easily and live to play many more days.

I too will vouch for the Mansfield Hotel, it was a pleasant surprise although I am still not sure about the waitress putting us on the table for two next to the fountain.  She must have seen the love in our eyes....pinball love that is.

Another great result and another great pinball trip.
