Black webbing in a can - available where?

As the titles says has anybody bought the 'black webbing paint in a can' in Australia?

If this stuff available from places like Bunnings?

Now you used to be able to buy this in Bunnings in various colours but its no longer available - typical Bunnings - never have quite what you want.

But if you have a spray gun, this can be achieved.

Basically -you mix an oil based paint with water. Depending on the ratio of mix is the fineness of the webbing. The oil based paint comes out in streaks and not an even spray - experiment first though...its a balance of mix and nozzle size

Keep us posted with updates Tony As id like to see your results.    I think im going to try Retro Pins method just out of curiosity with a bit of luck it will kill the cat ( the curiosity not the spraygun) and ill end up with a good finish.

One of Clay's videos covers the brush method with "webbing" - or so I'm told. I have seen the webbing paint at bunnings - next time I'm there I'll have a look for you.

Isn't it located right next to the checkered paint area? 

Not sure exactly what effect you're trying to acheive, but i used to do something similar with liquid latex in a margarine container on the end of a drill chuck to create cob-web effects for TV/movie sets....

maybe i'm totally off track?

I used to have a link but I can't find it anymore.
One guy restored an EM cabinet and he got very nice, thin webbing by using a spray gun.
He used black nitrocellulose paint (the finding of which is the hard part of the process) straight (un-thinned). The thick paint just came out stringy and looked to match old Gottlieb EM webbing perfectly. I'm sure that tinkering with the settings on the gun to get it right would take a minute or few, but it sure looked nice.

I like Retropin's idea. If it works, it would be a really easy & cheap solution.

p.s. There is a supplier for black nitrocellulose about ten minutes drive from me. Only sell in gallons but it's not too expensive (around $30 IIRC). I'm not trying to rub it in, rather maybe illustrating that it's possibly not as hard to find as reports indicate. This is a store that sells supplies for refinishing fine furniture and doing other woodwork and the like (guitars, etc.). Maybe this helps...??

Hi Tony, thought this might be of interest to you..

This is a section of my Abracadabra that i did a few years ago. i did this webbing using the toothbrush method.. dipping the brush into black enamel paint.. straight out of the tin, no thinners or turps used in the paint. Just scraped the bristles with a icypole stick, about a foot away from the cab ( i tested this first onto cardboard before trying it on the cab!!)

Thinning the paint gives small dots like what you see on most mid 70s cabs. Using the paint straight out of the tin, it was thick enough to go on real "stringy" as the pic shows.

Hope this is of some use to you, or anyone else who might be interested to try it.. but test it on something else first!!!

End up using the method Mitch mentioned above - it came out much heavier than the factory but I really like the effect.

Still spraying this damn cab! Been 3 weeks on and off - will be finished tomorrow.

Fairly complex design even though there are only 2 colours - have gone through almost 200 metres of masking tape!

Hi, I bought a can of silver webbing paint from Bunnings about six months ago to do my World Fair. It was great. The only problem was the can ran out of air before it ran out of paint. But it was enough to do the job. I was really happy with the results. They only stock one or two cans so you need to search.
