Were the inserts easy to do, how did you remove them and refit them ?

Gday Millsy.

This was my 1st attempt at removing inserts, but found it not as hard as I thought it
would be.

Method.
1. Remove PF and place it upside down.
2. Heat insert from underneath (I don't have a heat gun so used a hairdryer)
3. Gently tap out the insert through the top of the PF using a socket and rubber hammer.
I managed to break the edge off one, maybe not enough heat ?? but refitted it OK in the same spot.
4. Remove old paint around the edge of inserts .. I carefully scraped it off with a screw driver
then Novus 3, Novus 2 to clean up any scratches.
5. Put PF back in cab
6. Apply good bead of PVA glue around the inside top of hole
7. Push insert in with a ruler to level it
8. Double check flush by running a finger across PF and edges of insert
9. Wipe up any excess glue top and bottom

I've painted the timber playfield rails the Turquoise colour that I used on the cabinet.
I think it looks heaps better than the original sky blue (see the original bit near the ball gate that I haven't done yet.

Now I'm gonna have to respray the ball arch and apron too .

Today I wired up the Stepdown transformer and now the game has power for the 1st time in at least 6 years (and probably many more).
Check both transformers have correct voltages.

If I press the coin switch the score motor turns and stops but the current problem is the lock relay is not energising so currently trying to track down why.

I was excited to see that score motor run for the 1st time in who knows how long  $#$

Now have PF lights when I press left flipper. Took me a while to notice that most of the coils on Playboard had no 24V due to one of the wire loops was completely missing .  !@#
Onto the next prob, game has credits but press start button and nothing happens

Some more progress.
Fault .. press replay button .. nothing happens .. there were no credits on machine (Doh!)
Fault .. reset cycle not completing .. found one of the score reel 0 position switches was not open
Fault .. at game start the 10's reel incrementing by 1, the bell rings and the ball index relay held on .. found one rollover switch closed .

Current faults
1) Some PF lights not working .. what Williams called "Display lights" , the circuit runs via a switch on the Tilt relay, so I need to have
a look at that
2) Some PF switches not working and neither eject hole works
3) Machine is not recognising a drained ball

I've painted the ball arch cover Yellow , still need to do the Apron. I think it is much better than the original blue. What do you think?

That is looking great have you mylared the playfield?

The best advice i can give you is to rebuild all the stepper units and score reels i find 90% of EM start up faults are non functioning and dirty stepper and score units.  Specially if it has been sitting for many years.

If you unsure do a search in the 101 section there are step by step instructuions on how to do these  ^^^
