TIPS ON PINBALL SPARE PARTS STORAGE
« on: April 09, 2009, 07:52:27 PM »
Im in the process of building a bigger garden shed to house my spare parts and un finished projects and thought it would be a good idea to get it organised while its empty.  Anyone have any good tips on how to store there parts.  Ive playfield spares sorted into plastic tubs in a protable table i use to work on machines. But things like relays, playfields, backglasses and trims etc are always my problem.  Any tips would be great as at the moment i have an old pinball body just full of relays and steppers which is fine for storage but finding parts sucks.

The trouble is any type of storage system costs money; sometimes more than what it's worth to do it, I reckon.

Having said that sometimes the Reject Shop have good storage options in plastic; I have picked up some 17 compartment organisers for $2 each which will be used for storing smaller components (and electronic bits and pieces). I am already using one to store globes and screws and the like. They may have something that will fit relays and coils. They also have a range of large and reasonably inexpensive plastic 'boxes' that are good for holding all sorts of junk in an unstructured manner, but at least it is all in the one place and can be moved around with ease.

I was watching a movie the other night and seen a stand holding windscreens which was twu uprights with bars welded up the and thought i could do something like that for playfields and my completer rellay boards.  Made a dodgy drwing to explain what i seen.  Do you think a playfield might warp on this?

Check the sales catalogues. Whenever you see a cheap solution - BUY IT - Whether it be tubs, sets of drawers or metal stands.

I made most of my storage area (shelving) and placed everything in old fruit boxes (the wax ones) from the market. Pity I can't see my storage area anymore !

For starters chuck out those CRT monitors and get an LCD screen (or at least just keep one).

Well ive spent the day re arranging the spare parts shed i think its looking pretty good so far but lots more to go.  Coin doors on top back shelf they stand up well with there mechs in place.  Complete relay boards stacked under them on shelves and then playfields and complete score boards on the next row of shelves.  Im trying to leave room up one end for easy access to project machines so they dont flood the shed.   Ive also got a second set of lockers on the way.
