what are CFTBL playfield variations?

Looks like I am getting a IPB CFTBL playfield through Planetary. I initially had a deal sorted with Kim from IPB at the beginning of the year and then they were shut down and after a while taken over by Planetary so I chased Rick and he found it. It has a slight defect in the art - a smear on the lhs movie reel but otherwise looks great and is new. On looking at a few photos I noticed the girls hair above the window is all blonde not like the one in my game with blonde and brown / red.

Do any of you guys know the differences between the protos, production run and then the IPB repro's as I would like to learn a little about the variations.

The pink gradient is the main one that springs to mind. It is a different shade between original production runs (hot pink versus standard pink).

The reason is that three different production companies were originally contracted out to do the original playfield runs and all used different colour schemes (Lenc Smith, Sun Processes and TAG)

Some of the playfields are also missing the diamond plate logo.

I guess it will depend on whichever files IPB used from the original production run.

this is the one coming to me - has the diamond plate logo, but I don't know if this is hot pink or the soft pink- soft pink I think

you can see the hair is different and the VI smudged on the top left

The metal siderails were used on playfields that had a warp in them that WMS was trying to correct.

I prefer the wood ones. I had a BSD with metal siderails, and a previous owner stripped a few holes, and there was no 'easy' way to fix it. I tend to put new oak side stiffeners on my games as I restore them, using the originals to make a template, so if you've got a playfield with a slight warp.. I'd recommend just using a better grade of wood than WMS did :) It'll make a nice difference.

Well I am one very happy camper today as finally got my NOS CFTBL playfield which is a second but was still completed, cleared and looks great. It will most probably go to Tim to have corrections done and finished off with his amazing clear coat.

I am puzzled if this was a IPB second of possibly a WMS proto-type second as it has the hot pink for the car, snackbar etc which I am stoked about as it just pops.

Does anyone know if if IPB did the non nude pf in the hot pink?


Also to help others I bought this from Planetary and he shipped by registered USPS (delivered by Aus Post which was surprising given the size of the box) to my door for $109 USD (very affordable), very well packaged and superfast 7-8 days.
