Hulk
« on: June 11, 2018, 05:38:40 PM »
I brought this as a project from a friend about 12months ago and have just recently got up and going again. There was nothing majorly wrong with it, most issues were fixed with a new Pascal 4 in 1 board, a few new globe holders and a flipper rebuild.
Hulks now had a good cleanup and I think it looks pretty cool so I thought I’d share some pictures.

I rebuilt a new light board for it because the old one had some water damage and had swollen to almost double it’s thickness. It mostly still worked but I had a new backglass from Shay to go in it and didn’t want the light shrouds scratching it since the original chipboard was now so much bigger from the swelling.

New backboard with new Boston Pinball Green LED displays.

Nice  ^^^ ^^^

And nice work with the light board.. thats one of the MANY jobs left to do on my Pinball Pool (longest resto in history, eight years and counting) @.@  It has the same issue, swollen to twice the size due to water damage!

I was going to ask what was the deal with the displays, i initially thought you had 7 digit glasses in there as they didn't seem to fill the score window. Then i saw the second lot of pics, With the backglass closed up you'd never know they weren't original displays.. digits look pretty much identical! I can see they have provision for a seventh digit for games that used 7 digit displays... NEAT IDEA!!

Yes, the displays look great. I brought a set of the blue ones for the Count-down that I’m slowly restoring.

This is a picture of them with the old powdery backglass in but you can see how vibrant the displays are.

One thing I did on the backboard light panel was use pvc pipe for the light shrouds. You can buy 1m lengths from Bunnings and I was able to find pipe in almost identical diameter to the original cardboard shrouds.

I drilled a hole saw slightly bigger than the pipe 3 to 4mm into the panel and then a router set at 3mm to finish off the rebates. Then I liquid nailed the pvc in place and finished it off with a flexible gap filler an paint. I think they came up well.

Yes it’s good to have the replacement displays but they’re not always available. I think they must just do a batch of them every so often and when they sell out they’re gone until whenever there’s enough demand for another run.
