Williams Phoenix
« on: March 15, 2015, 09:23:52 AM »
Good morning fellow pinheads.

Been thinking of a new addition lately but unsure on a title. This phoenix caught my eye so I did my usual youtube/google reshearch and I'm still interested. Would look good next to my flash, play looks fun and I love the old school sounds.

What are others thoughts on this title and also in particular this machine re price, condition ect.

Thanks in advance.

I like a lot of Williams games from this era - but this one not really much. Sounds then were not great, and this one I recall possibly not even as good as others, and not the most attractive game IMO. I suspect that price is about right given the market? Getting hard to judge as most games seem to be asking a lot more in the last 12-24 months.

it will make your Flash look even nicer though!  *)*

I have a Williams Phoenix 1978.
Purchased from Blair for apx $1200 four years ago.
I purchasers a new backglass, a new fully populated Playfield with harness and every single thing connected as a spare.
I had the MASTER Board repairer Beaky do all boards up n he made them like brand new.

I am planning a APR Resto on mine so it can go back to like new.
Having seen a Phoinex delivered to a shop in 1978 and seeing the cabinet colours were five times brighter than what's on those Ebay photos, you have to go full cabinet and full reco on everything to see in its original glory.
I am going to.

The game looks sensational with new globes and better with new Leds depending which way you go.
People who have played mine have enjoyed it a lot.

Restored back to the bright original pink cabinet and all chrome looking smsing with everything made like new, it will look amazing.
Play one and see if you like it....

It will look amazing if you make it like new. It was the BRIGHTEST pin for some time around that few years. It is he joy inspired Japaneese cartoon art for sure.
Great pin.
Go play it.
Parts are easy to get.

bought a phoenix 12mths ago. it was my first pin.
private seller who had it for a few years and wanted to get into a DMD machine, needed cash and space.
machine bright colours really suit LED treatment.
easy to play , but still has enough to keep you interested.
without seeing it in flesh to look at quality, but seems just a couple of hundred over priced.
depends how bad u want it

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It didn't sell and has been re-listed so if it fails to go this time I think I'll contact him on the side and make an offer.
Taking all comments on board the 2 biggest negatives seem to be the sounds and the artwork both of which I love, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. After studying the gameplay (I haven't played it) seems to suit my style as well.

I repaired a Phoenix that was a sloppy dealer shop out. I ended up reconditioning the game, and when I was done, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the game played. It is not a player like "Flash" is - but it is fairly close. I rate this game - $1800 is a bit high. $1200 sounds about right, but $1500 is more realistic.

As most know, there is a switch on the Williams sound board and you can chose from two entirely different sound Roms already preset. It is like chalk and cheese.

When the cabinets go back to original factory new pink, it is super bright and is the brightest barbie pink you could ever see on any pinball. Add in the bright white on the cabinet with the Orange and its unique but striking.
Then add the bright bright chicken yellow and the red n white bullseye target with the brightest yellows n whites and reds etc from the playfield and its a visually exciting art piece. The metal on the pin re chromed sets off the colours and the Legs re chromed also make it pop.
It's the reco job on this pin that makes it a really great machine.
Not reconditioned I give it a 6 out of 10.
Reco it with new cab paint n chrome n Playfield strip n plastics etc etc, it's a 10 for looks for sure and still a 8 out of ten for gameplay.
Go for it.
It will be fun to do it up.
If u need parts always try me.
