Best Solid State 80's pin
« on: April 30, 2009, 02:46:42 PM »
I saw the post on the best 70's pin and though it was great

I think I'm after an 80's SS pin for my next purchase and am wondering what you think is the best. I want it to have at least a few drop targets & although easy for guests to get into also something that won't get boring for me quick. I have an idea on what I'm after but really would like to know what you feel are the best 80's pins out there

cheers ..Paul

Here's the long list ;

http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?gtype=SS&yr=1980-89&searchtype=advanced

I'd stop at 1984.

It really depends on your budget and your preferred manufacturer. Availability of the title also needs to be considered.

Bally

Fathom
Medusa
Flash Gordon
Eight Ball Deluxe

Williams

Jungle Lord
Black Knight

Gottlieb

Rocky
Black Hole
Haunted House

Stern

Big Game
Galaxy
Nineball

Really - If you LOVE Drop targets, you cannot go past Stern Meteor - But that was 1979. Paragon would be the other game I'd suggest.

Hear, hear!!

I guess it has a lot to do with being the first pin I played in earnest, but I think that EBD is just fantastic.

My vote goes to Black Hole. Not to say the others mentioned are not great pins.

Just not *the* greatest like BH!

Oh yeah, if you like drop targets then EBD has a whole bank of 7, and then the bonus multipliers are drop targets, and so is the 8-ball.

Getting your hands on one is the hard part - but some seem to manage it. Once Marty J has his up and running I will have to drop in and give it a bash if he lets me near it, the more you guys talk it up the better it sounds.

You just have to speak to the right people. They are out there, at least 2 - 3 appear on eBay a year.

One machine that is near impossible to find is GTB Spirit. That is an incredible game to play with one of the hardest multiballs of any machine. I left it off my list as they are difficult to find, but a blast to play.
