Whitewater rebuild - COMPLETED!!!
« on: May 01, 2009, 05:23:23 PM »
I though it was about time to start a thread on my Whitewater rebuild, I started stripping the PF down at the start of the year and slowly plodded away on it when I have had spare time.  I have just finished waxing and am about to start reassembly.

I have owned this pin for around 4 years but only just got around to doing anything on it.  I probabally should not have purchased it because of the PF wear but it has a good topper and at the time it was a fair price.
The PF was in poor condition with serious wear around some inserts, I had to level out these inserts and touch up paintwork.  As I did not want to CC the PF I touched up with a very fine brush and CC the touchup with Automotive clear.

I estimate the touchup paintwork took approx 20-25 hrs, I know it sounds like a lot for the result I achieved but it was enjoyable listening to music and swallowing the odd scotch

My biggest problem with the touchups was a particular blue used on the upper PF, I spent half those 20 hours on getting that right, and when I was finally happy with the match and layed down the mylar over it (ball drop areas) the bloody colour changed to a darker shade  @.@  Oh well I was just being a fussy prick and you can't really see any of that section when you are standing at the front of the pin.
I have had problems in the past with CC changing the shades of colours but never mylar, you live and learn I suppose.

Here are a few before photos, notice the repaired boulders, and in the second pic, the right ramp missing a large section on the left side, the operator has just replaced with a star post  !@#

I have purchaced replacement ramps for these from Greg, and Wotto kindly gave me two others that needed replacing, but more about that later.

Here is another before shot, notice the wear from the kickout (bottom left of first pic at the top of purple section) almost every Whitewater has PF wear in this area.
The second photo shows my touchup (sorry for the blurry pic)

Here is some more before and after shots of the terrible PF wear.  As I said before I didn't want to CC the whole PF so did the best I could with a fine brush, although far from perfect I am very happy with the results, they look a bit rough in close up photos but are almost unnoticeable at normal viewing distance standing infront of the pin

Matt,

Great start  $#$

There is no sign of mylar ? Was it previously removed.

The yellows are a lot darker in the "after" shots - is this the camera - or just some very fine cleaning and polishing ?

Nice work there, colour match is always a hard thing to get right. On such a small area you've done well. Lucky I knew from the pictures where to look otherwise you would miss it.  @@*

I think is is just the lighting in the shed Nino, I had to remove the mylar, it was just the factory stuff, under the pop bumpers and the whole upper PF

Thanks guys, you cannot notice it if you do not get up close and know what you are looking for, so I am happy with the result, I'm just a bit too fussy sometimes.  I was going to look for another WH20 and get rid of this one, but decided to take the challenge and repair to see how it turns out.

Next is some flame polishing of the ramps

Hey Matt,

That playfield came up sweet  *%* - you are brave man pulling that playfield apart with all those parts!

Also this is a fantastic game to play - took alot of money from me when it was on location.

Keep the updates coming!
