RFM has arrived
« on: May 03, 2009, 02:02:13 PM »
Finally got my revenge from mars home. Will post pix when they come to hand. I actually shipped it in 3 parts. Reason being I had conditions put upon me. The machine had to live downstairs and if you have ever lifted one of these beasts you'll know what I'm talking about. Just me and the wife would have spelt trouble with all those steps and distance.

With this is mind, I have to say pin2000 is fantastic for dismantelling. First trip was take the playfield. 4 plugs and rip it out. Second remove the headbox (real difficult). 4 plugs, a wing nut holding a ground strap, and 4 bolts (lift and take away). This left the main cabinet that now weighed stuff all. Moving to my place not a problem.

I'd guess, if I did all the above, disassemble and reassemble, I'd reckon an hour max. I don't think you could do this with a standard pin *!@

I've already shopped the playfield that also played out like a dream and did have a problem on first power on, but reseated the prism (due to cartage i guess) and been playing since. I will be do some basic restore stuff on the pinball like decals. If I don't get to carried away I'll document it and do a post.

Finally RFM from a game play point of view ROCKS. Got to the final scene which was a struggle on 3 balls and was rewarded with some nice video. You have to play the game to the rules to achieve this end. There's no cheating or simply play out a mission (you have to get flawless completions to missions)

Haven't investigated this yet. Given the machine a good work over play wise and doing minor adjustments to switches to make them more responsive, tweak the monitor etc Will let you guys know what path I'll take on the glass

Yes, from memory of a different thread, this one had a fairly long and reasonably deep scratch in the glass. Still thinking about how to tackle it I imagine.

Update on glass, have been told that they won't polish out scratches as it will weaken the glass. This was a car windscreen org. May try a straight glazier and see what they reckon. To be honest I don't notice it during game play as the ball(s) keep coming at you due to the smaller playfield. If all else fails I'll just get a new glass I think.

Mini review: Game showcases the new technology quite well but opens your imagination of what could have been in the future. They have tried to avoid the game from being repetative between modes by mixing it up with multiballs (or bonus waves). It has several multiball modes 2, 3 and 4 ball again to make the game more interesting. To try and make each game somewhat unique, there is a mini game (can't remember the its name as I'm a work now on a tight time schedule), but it involves vertigo images and a mode in the middle of the series of mission in the game whereby one of four  mission modes will be randomly selected. Hence making your game unique from possibly the last one

Animation is neat and the speech/comments can be funny as you play. The negative I find in the game so far is that it is quite dark and the ball is hard to see. Vary little GI etc. But seeing my break is over, I'll sum up and say, it is a fun, flipper fest of a game and highly recommend it for that as well as its novelty factor and uniqueness to the standard pin.

RFM is great fun...

Mini review,
I & a few members here played one on Saturday Night & Like Paul said it's great fun.
I agree with Rob it is quite dark & a bit hard to see the ball & it is a fun flipperfest. A somewhat different pin to what I'm used to playing, but I'd play one again for sure.IMHO.
