Big Ben Score motor
« on: January 07, 2018, 05:54:49 PM »

Hi guys,
A few years back I posted a advert to sell my EM machine http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=14559.0 and since then it has sat in my shed not doing too much,
Recently I have been playing around with it again and a issue it has always had is with the score motor. The motor gets hot and I suspect that it is the result of a dodgy job done some time ago as it looks like someone has rewound the coil or something like that.
So im trying to find a replacement motor, however the motor that is in the machine is completely different to the one that is listed in the schematics that I have
The schematics are for the Williams version of the machine which seems to be slightly different to the Segasa version which is what I own...
So my question is would the Williams score motor part 14A-7883 be a suitable replacement?
I have attached a bunch of photos of the score motor as i took it apart trying to find a model number

Thanks for having a look

Allan

@ddstoys may have a second hand one in his museum. I'll take a look and see if I have one.

Fallback plan would be Pinball Resource - http://www.pbresource.com/motor.html

It SHOULD work.

Hi again,
so I have had no luck with the old motor, the mounts that hold the coil in place have cracked and broken so it seems my only option now is to get a new motor.
I have not ordered a 14a-7883 as yet because the 7883 is listed as a 60hz motor and the part 14a-7884 which is the 50hz equivalent does not seem to exist anymore

So as I understand running a 60hz motor on a 50hz supply will mean the motor runs slower and hotter, I don't mind about the slower side of it I am more worried about the new motor cooking its self.
has anyone ever had any experience with this?

I’ll have a look when it cools down.
I would t worry about the hz being an issue you won’t be playing it 24/7 like it would have back In the day

Looks to me that at some point the enameled wire on the coil has been broken and someone has soldered it back together... you've got 2 wires twisted and then soldered to another 2 wires. This in effect is creating a short in the windings and so the coil wont be using any of the turns past this bodge up... no wonder its running hot!

If you know the number of turns then rewind it yourself... would be fixed in a morning then. Make sure you wind the coil in the same direction though
