Williams Beat Time/Beatles Pinball
« on: June 20, 2009, 09:28:22 AM »
Would look nice in a collection: http://cgi.ebay.com/1967-BEATLES-BEAT-TIME-PINBALL-MACHINE-NICE-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ250444567057QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a4fa8d211&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1307%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Interested to note it has an altered/reproduction backglass with the Beatles faces and name in the snare drum  ^^^

Have attached the altered backglass and the original below

Quite unusual, Would like to see what this goes for if two or more die hard Beatles fans/collectors get into a bidding war.

With the adrenalin taking over in the final minutes things could get real nasty - definitely an ending worthy to watch :)

Hmm, I wonder if the repro/modified backglass is properly licenced? Not that anyone would really care, I imagine.

Can remember an article on these glasses around 12 years ago....they were a 'proper' reproduction glass but doubt The Beatles would of given their permission...from memory Herb Silvers did them (I think)

Sounds about right; it would be fairly collectable especially with that repro backglass.

(Sorry it's in caps) AM RECEIVING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BOOTLES VS BEATLES BACKGLASS...WITH THE DEATH OF BRIAN EPSTEIN, THE BEATLES MANAGER IN 1967 AND THE END OF THE POPULAR KIDDIE CARTOON, WILLIAMS PINBALL COMPANY WAS LEFT WITHOUT THE RIGHTS TO USE THE ABC SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON BEATLES AS THE IMAGES ON THEIR NEW MACHINE, BEAT TIME. EVEN THOUGH THE ARTWORK WAS READY TO GO INTO PRODUCTION, WILLIAMS OPTED TO CREATE A GENERIC "BOOTLES" BACKGLASS AND PLAY SURFACE. THE SIGN BELOW THE PLAYER TWO NUMBERS BECAME "LOVE DINGO" FROM "RINGO", THE DRUM BECAME "BOOTLES" FROM "BEATLES" AND THE MOCK BANDS ON THE PLAYING SURFACE OF THE GAME BECAME "THE VULTURES", "THE GROANING BONES" AND SEVERAL OTHERS...INSTEAD OF THE "VENTURES" AND "ROLLING STONES". SO, THE BEATLES BACKGLASS WAS LOST UNTIL 2001 WHEN THE ORIGINAL ARTIST THAT MADE BOTH VERSIONS OF THE BACKGLASS IN 1967, RELEASED A LIMITED RUN OF 250 BACKGLASSES WITH THE ORIGINAL ABC SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON BEATLES RESTORED TO ITS ORIGINAL SPLENDOR. I PURCHASED TWO OF THEM FOR BOTH OF MY MACHINES AND THAT IS WHAT YOU NOW SEE IN THE PICTURES ABOVE AND WHAT IS OFFERED FOR SALE WITH THIS MACHINE. THE BACKGLASSES WERE $250 EACH AND PURCHASED FROM A COMPANY IN CALIFORNIA. THIS BACKGLASS IS NO LONGER FOR SALE, AS THEY WERE SNAPPED UP QUICKLY BY BEAT TIME OWNERS AND BEATLES COLLECTORS. IF YOU CHECK OUT THE OTHER BEAT TIME PINBALL MACHINE NOW FOR SALE ON EBAY YOU WILL SEE THE ORIGINAL BOOTLES BACKGLASS...I THINK YOU WILL AGREE, WHEN IT COMES TO THE BEATLES VS THE BOOTLES, JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE AND RINGO ARE SECOND TO NONE!!!  I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP SOME OF THE CONFUSION ABOUT THE BACKGLASSES
