Hey Guys,

I mentioned to the wife that im looking to buy a multimeter (hint hint to her for my birthday today) so she goes out and buys one today. I expected her to do this on the weekend and give it to me as a late bday present. So i didnt tell her that i wanted it to be auto rangeing, buzzing continuity test etc. She went to bunnings and bought me the only model they had ...

I told her that it was really sweet but could she return it  Should i just keep the one she got me or get something i really want

IMO its probably best to return it if your wife wont be upset but if it will keep the peace go use it to get pro football going it will do everything you will need for now

I don't know Rob, I think you're doin' pretty well, I got undies & socks for my birthday a few weeks ago and the wife knows I like pinball stuff :(  Well... to be fair she did buy me the Myth Busters book & DVD as well :)

Anyway I better get the laptop out and join the family at the tele, State of Origin is about to start :)

Well ive got about four meters!
 2 analogue - one is a 70's Russian model and built like a brick!

I use both DMM and analogue... DMM for measuring accurately voltages, analogue for transistor testing and continuity, diode etc - in fact everything else.

So keep the present - was a nice gesture, cos youll need another meter once you leave this one inside a machine

I'm the same as Gav, I have about 5 of them around the workshop, usually buried under piles of crap ;)

My wife just said thank her, then when you have the chance take it back to exchange it.....said she will never know anyway.

No, it's better to be honest and tell her you would prefer a different multimeter. Make sure to thank her for the effort, though.

It doesnt look like a bad meter, however, would be better if it had a lower DC voltage range.

Ive decided to keep it though the effort she made (and because im a coward)  Now to find the right setting so i can get to work on this nightmare of a pro football
