Am I crazy?
« on: July 06, 2009, 10:09:08 PM »
Hi just looking for some advice.

I have two EM machines. I know the EM's are fairly easy and straightforward to fix. I have always wanted an electronic game so I am thinking of buying one soon, probably in the $2000-$2500 dollar range.

Are they more prone to break? Are they harder to repair? More expensive to repair? I am guessing the answer to all three questions is yes.

Should I not do it?

Anybody who owns both types got any input.

Thanks

Ems can be repaired fairly easily but Newer games unless you have Electronic Knowledge can be a nightmare to repair

You buy/own what you enjoy playing, and can afford. My King Pin EM stuffed-up last week, I spent 2 days trying to figure out why it kept scoring multiples of 500's and 5000's. Newys EM guy took it away and found the problem, but it wasnt an easy find even for him. EMs usually dont need need parts, just adjustments.

Solid state gear can just die without warning, at worse chips, commonly connector issues. Because we love our games we accept that they all brake-down sometimes. Common maintenance parts for 90's WMS/Bally machines so bloody cheap and plentiful, no reason to think that they are expensive to run.

2000-2500 buys a great machine, no better time than now to take the plunge.

Yeah, seems to be some good buying available at this time. Go for it. Yeah there will be issues but they can be fixed.
