Gottlieb PICNIC 1958

Please find attached some progress of the Gottlieb Picnic from 1958.

This is a fairly rare 2 player woodrail that is actually pretty cool to play. Also a very pretty game

Have owned the game for 5 years and have rebuilt the mechanics and the playfield has been redone with new playfield plastics, pop bumper caps, skirts, bodies and flippers etc.

All that is need is the cab to be reprayed and the legs.

These are the game Saturday morning and after all the mechanical parts were taken off the cab

What a pain - had been repainted not once but TWICE!

The cab had a Drop a Card design on the outside, after stripping that layer off under it was ANOTHER repaint but with a Sweethearts cab design. So being careful as I wanted to be able to get to the original cab design to make stencils for the respray.

The original paint was just there as it had been sanded back. Anyways there was enough for what I needed, same with the head

These are the results of making new stencils today, there was enough of the original paint to trace and I have high resolution photos from another collector in the US that I will be able to print out at work (helps working in a drawing office with plotters worth 50K  

So will sand the rest back next weekend. Will be able to remake the original design with the use of a combimation of stencils and masking tape.

Will be a few weeks work but will be ready for the meet in October.

Next will be Gaucho from 1963

Oh this repaint is doing my head in....very tricky design.

Taking my time, don't feel like I'm getting anywhere at the moment 

Will keep chipping away everyday and with some luck will get the first colour (green) on this Saturday morning

Suppose the front door and all the hardware off the front of the game and the legs have also been redone

Is it perfectly matched to the "whites" of this era ?

Well that is real tough because all these games are 50+ years old and also alot of the Gottlieb cabs from this era have totally different base colours other than shades of white....such as yellow and blue 

I went up to the paint shop and took samples of all the shades of white and matched it that way. It has a slight cream colour to it. Really like the look of it. Was also applied with a roller....will never spray again. Firstly I feel there are less chemicals and it sure is less messy.

Very happy with the roller, sure not for everybody but very happy with the texture it also has.

Tell you what - these stencils are a bastard!
