To Varnish or Not
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:25:43 PM »
Just would like to no what eveyone else has done to ther bottom of cabints.Just sanded the inside and painted the sides black but not sure weather to leave as a natural look or varnish it.Have seen a Fishtail done and it does look good, but have heard it may go a yellow colour down the track, just not sure !@#.Doing this on my cactus so would like to try and get it right the first time around.
In the picture their is some over spray but it will be sand back again.
So what would be the best outcome
cheers
Craig

Is it ply on the bottom of a CC?

I know its cheesy, but I generally try to copy what Christoper Hutchins does on his as they always turn out looking a million bucks.

Most of the pins I have seen inside are left natural on the base, I am pretty sure. If you want to have it look nice and shiny then varnishing would be an option. The black sides look good.

The REAL question is - where is the bloody resto thread Craig ?

I would be varnishing the base. You can get a can of Cabot's from Bunnings and give the base a couple of coats. That way, dirt and dust won't stain into the wood.

I guess if you got a low-gloss varnish it wouldn't be too shiny but would retain the natural look.

Not really a resto ,just a good clean, was only going to vacuum it out but got a bit carried away.

Got this one all ready decal from Mark c as was a lot quicker and easier for me.Get pleasure out of doing all the other bits and pieces.
