Help needed. I need a backglass scanned.
« on: September 12, 2009, 02:29:33 PM »
Hi guys,

thinking in advance for one of my next projects and need help with getting a backglass scanned.

I would prefer it done in one scan. IIRC i was once told that i need to find someone with an A2 scanner to have it scanned all at once.. Is this correct ?  !@#

I've also been told that having it scanned at 300 dpi is plenty but some one also suggested that 600 dpi would be better !

Has anyone had one scanned in one piece before ?

Can anyone direct me to a place in Melbourne ?

Does anyone from the forum have the capabilities to do it  ?

If so could you kindly give me a figure of its costs ?

Thanks guys..

Hi mate.

OK - I have never scanned a BG ....BUT that HH art I just did for Nick was orignally scanned at 300dpi and was very clean at that resolution.

I have an idea that you will get colour differences when it is scanned but !@# !@#

I looked into this only this week.

The copy centre that scans alot of our work to send OS can do it (though I live in NSW) I'm sure there would be similiar places where you live.

They have a large flat bed scanner and can scan the backglass in one hit (the scanner) is about 90cm across for the cost of $25 per scan and they supply images back on a CD.

I'm sure 300dpi will be fine but if you can hang on I will be getting my backglass scanned Monday week and will talk to them while I'm there.

I agree marc $25 is worth every cent if it saves having to stitch together the 6 regular scans i might start looking for a local with a big enough scanner

No problems....will be getting it done Monday week, will let you know how it goes. Looking at having 2 glasses done.

Marc, what are your plans? What backglass? What will you do with the scanned image?

+1, I have been having trouble doing this myself, very awkward unless you've got a big scan area. Be keen to hear of anywhere local or Melbourne that can do this. Want to scan Asteroid Annie just in case one day.. .. ..

I want to remake another glass Tony....

I need to scan my existing glass and have the artwork repaired.

Plan is for it to go into the game.

Someone mentioned to me years ago that there is a place in Collingwood that has these capabilities but buggered if i can remember !  !@#

 $.$

Me too! My Caveman glass is stuffed - but at least it's only one of those 1/4 height ones...

Didn't someone on here (or AA?) modify a canon scanner to lay flat on a cab to do side art? Maybe try something like that for the glass?

there is a place here in UNDERWOOD QLD that does scan full backglasses as well as cabinet art.
Kenny Priest uses a local company. I will speak to him or another fellow i know who has direct access to the commercial printer. some commercial printers do have scanners large enough.
